Codeine addiction

I am on day five of withdrawal from codeine and i was wondering how long it will take for my mental health to be back to normal. I am 30 and  have been taking the tablets since i was 19, sometimes over the counter drugs an sometimes 30/800 prescription. I have tried to give them up many times before but i have always gone back because of the depression. I have recently been looking up on the internet and found out that it was because of the endorphins in the drug that they made me feel happy. I am now determined to kick the habit once and for all and i would like to know when i will feel normal again.

Hi and Welcome!

Day 5 is wonderful! You are well on your way and within two days you should pretty much like your old self again.

Try light exercise like walking and do something nice for yourself. A warm bath and cuddling with a good book always makes me feel better.

Glad to see you here and reaching out. Stick around you will advise from some good people!

Hi and thank-you,
I was taking co-codomol and the withdrawals are horrific. I feel a bit like death warmed over lol
I was never prescribed the stronger drugs, i was just getting them from a relative but i was prescribed the 8/500 co-codomol after a bad time in my life when i was nineteen.
I do feel a bit better today than i have over the weekend but it's still pretty rough.
Thanks for your kind words
Ruby

Welcome to MedHelp, first of all! You're doing the right thing in seeking out assistance and encouragement from other people, I promise you. I also promise you that you'll get all the help and encouragement that you'll need to get through this. They have so many amazing people here to help -- You just have to do the work! =]

Please keep us posted and let us know how everything is going for you. What pills were you taking, by the way? There are a lot of medicines out there that have codeine in them, so I was just wondering. Also, was this medicine prescribed to you by a doctor? If so, then contact him/her and let them know what your thoughts are right now with this, and let them know that you need help!
