I am now 10 days clean from a 8 year codiene addiction, codiene ***** you in before you even realise its happened.  I personally wouldn't take it, I would look for alternatives.

TBH,  Im not even sure bronchitis is severe enough of a problem to justify a codeine prescription. After a cursory search on the internet for "bronchitis treatment" I found the most common treatment is tylenol/parcetamol/acetiminophen,  a  non opiate cough suppresant like robotussin etc,... and drink plenty of fluids.

Interestingly enough, my wife and I recently babysat my 6 year old nephew  (as well as his 2 year old sister) who also had  bronchitis. All he was rx'ed  were regular doses of paracetamol (acetaminophen) for the sore throat and cough syrup (duro-tuss) to supress his cough.

Personally, I've never been partial to codeine (other than as a precurser)  and I would never abuse it nor could I imagine it having any "trigger" value  but I am acutely aware that many forum members do. Trust your insticts and  if you feel it might jeopardise your  sobriety then you need to throw it away. I realise your doctor prescribed it but it may be too early to be testing yourself.

Anyways, all the best and I hope youre able to swiftly recover from your bout of bronchitis.

I agree. I am 23 days clean. During the first five days, the hardest as far as I'm concerned, I was informed that I had to pay a huge tax bill, my main office computer's hard drive went out, and I had to take my daughter to the airport so she could return to school. Not physical problems, but the mental stress and depression was almost unbearable.

I already sent an email to my dr asking for something else. Tonight I will stick to regular roubitusin and no codine and see what the dr says tomorrow. Of course when I'm trying to get my life back together first it's kidney stones and now this. Just need a little break

Dump it. Although codeine is harder for some to take because it upsets your stomach, in my younger days I almost got the same rush from it as I did from vics. As all the wise people above have suggested, you need to ask your doc for something else.

codeine is highly addictive, just like the pills. it's in a lot of the pills as well. i would steer far from it, if i were you. there are other options for you out there. ask your doctor

I agree - it would be a huge trigger for me to take that stuff.  Better to try a non-narcotic first to see if that helps.  As far as I'm concerned, an opiate is an opiate.  Potato potahto right?  lol

Cough medicines with codiene are sometimes stronger than pills and will definitely be a trigger!

Hmm, for me personally I would choose not to take it.

OOOH  Boy,  I know for me it would be a trigger. Can you maybe call your Dr. office and ask for a different rx w/out codeine? How long have you been pill free?
