Some say it isn't addictive... my doctor thinks differently. They wanted to put me on it for nerve issues, and it did work. Took it for a few months and I came off of it OK, but was concerned the entire time.

Don't try to replace an opiate high with it.  I just got prescribed Gabapentin last month, for opiate withdraws.  I googled the snot out of it, came up with lots of info........  it causes drowiness at high doses (stoned), and weight gain.

I'm only taking 300 mg per day, (i've read stories of 2400mg per day) aslso read that at 1000mg for longer than a month requires a taper down so you don't get WD's from it.

For me it helps with pain about the same as tylenol and helps with cravings for opiate pain relievers about the same as eating a supreme pizza.  which aint bad, it doesn't replace the others but sure makes quitting the others better.   If you get in the mode of thinking, "is it time for my next one yet?" or wake up at 5:00 AM just so you can take one, is not a good sign.

It is used for seizures, skitzophrenia, pain, fibromyalgia, and opiate withdraws among others.  Different dosages and length of usage for each.
One using it to quit other addictions should use as little as possible for the shortest time possible.  It may become it's own problem, or react to other meds and foods.

What's your daily dosage?
How long do you plan on taking it?

It sounded like, from your post that you started at too high of dose, it is one to ease into if higher dose is neccassary, then ease back down.

That drug does form physical dependence and withdrawal. For many who like it, which varies greatly, it does have abuse potential and doses tend to rise over time. I believe the stoned feeling, which is a common experience of street users, will likely pass as you become addicted to it. Feeling stoned for clinical uses is considered an adverse effect. I would talk to your doctor and see if another drug or lower dosage is more appropriate for your situation.

I've never taken that drug, so I can't offer personal experience, but most of what I've read about this med doesn't mention getting high on it.

Are you taking anything else?  What did your Dr. tell you about this drug and why was it prescribed to you?
