Cold Turkey Withdrawing - not by choice

I am being forced to cold turkey withdrawal from all meds I was taking for fibromyalgia and I don't know what to do. I was prescribed percocet 5/325 5x daily,  ultram 50 4x day,  and Valium 2x/day (final dosing). My pain management clinic kept upping my dosage because of tolerance and also because I take care of my adult son with a TBI as well as work a very stressful job full time. I really thought I needed it due to all these problems they said I had so I went with it not realizing I was getting addicted. I failed one drug test approximately one month ago,  but had gotten all my meds refilled that day.  I wrote them an extensive letter saying why I tested positive for codeine (I had accidentally been taking my stepfather's Tylenol 3 mixed in with my Percocet when my mom gave me a smaller pill bottle to keep in my purse) and oxycodone (I took the last 3 pills of Oxycontin new I had received a prescription for two years ago as stemming as a side effect from a bad reaction to a bone-hardening agent I received for osteoporosis since I can't do oral pills). I wrote them to see if I could get 1 months worth of meds while I found a new provider and they are refusing all correspondence with me.  I was due for a refill on 7/13 and so i am technically 5 miserable dsys into this. Tonight has been the worst - the heart racing, sweats, anxiousness, diarrhea, etc are miserable. I cant get an appt to a shrink unril next Saturday. What can i do in the meantime and how do i deal? My husband is being most supportive but everything OTC doesn't help except for Pepto and the antidiarrhea meds. How much longer can I expect and what is normal? I am so embarrassed by this and ashamed.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,, so much.

Wow, your on a lot of controlled substances. I'm really surprised your being prescribed all of those meds Physicians usually won't prescribe an Opiate (Percocet) and a Benzodiazapam (Valium) together unless you have 4th stage cancer Especially because of the risk of Respiratory Arrest. The pain management center is doing its job because you broke their rules by taking your Fathers Tylonol 3 to bump up the effect of the Percocet. Usually pain management centers will not increase the dosage of medications unless you state your in severe Physical pain from an injury or disease. "Not withdrawal Discomfort". That being said I am sooo sorry about your Son's TBI and the deseases your suffering from. I think you should look for a new pain clinic and Tell Them The Truth please do not embellish by stating you put the wrong meds in your pill box being on all of those meds is a huge Responsibility  for You and especially the prescribing Physician. That being said you can try the Thomas Recipe it helps with WD you can do a google search to find it. I humbly and Honestly think you should find a Physician who specializes in Substance Abuse and pain management to help you get this whole thing under control before you end up in a Hopital like I did 14 years ago detoxing for 63 days. I will keep you in my Prayers and Blessings and light a candle of Special Intent for you. My Friend and Sister the rest is up to you to seek the Help you need and by coming on MH was a step in the right direction InDeed, Hope and Pray you stay so we can help you through this ~ jimi (little wing =0)

usually the pain contracts say that they will give you the final 30 days of meds and then you are on your own.  your failed test will follow you.
it may be best to just buckle up and ride this out.  days 3 & 4 is usually the worst.  many people take immodium in copious amounts to help, but i personally have no experience.
you will get through this.  i hate that doctors do this to people,, but i realize they have to have some limits, rules because too many people just abuse meds.
just be thankful that the meds you are on are not heavier.  however;  i have heard that ultram is a strange, hard detox.  either way, 5-7 days should be the worst.

Hello. I just wanted to let you know you are not alone. Although I can not respond in full to your post right now please know there are people out there that cares. I will respond back to you tomorrow. Best wishes. Typically pain med detox takes anywhere from 5 to 9 days. You are almost to the point ( A day or two) where you probably will start to feel a little better each day. I know how bad it *****.

Try not to be so hard on yourself. There is no way you can take pain meds for chronic pain and not get addicted. No way, no how. It comes with the prescription. Doctors don't do a very good job explaining this to their patients. I carried shame on my shoulders for a long, long time and I still do to this day but I can tell you it gets better. See you tomorrow. BD

If you want to tell me a little more detail about what you were taking, the dose, and for how long I would be happy to help.
