Coming off Oxycodone to Methadone..not liking it

I have been on 60-100mg of oxcodone a day off and on for 8 months since and accident. I couldnt taper on the perks tho..too short acting up and downs. I tried suboxone and subutex off the street and have come so damn close to being tapered I was down to 1mg a day, but only could get enough to taper from each for a week, then cold turkey and after day 3 of withdrawls I broke since I had to work, people where wondering where I went, I got some perks and went a few days until a friend I told my situation to talked me into doing a methadone taper for a month. It was free (upside) but I was scared from everything I heard about it. She has me convinced that a month, starting with 10mg, going down rapidly first week to 5, then down to 2 and then cold turkey. Im afraid it will be hell at the end of the month, facing the same thing (last time i got off perks it took a week of hell 7 days no sleep restless flu hell). Im afraid the WD will as bad or worse from the methadone even at such a low dose. I'd prefer to do subutex but dont have access to enough of it to do a full taper. today is my first day taking just methadone and I feel very strange. no energy, depressed and hopeless feeling. I am thinking of taking the thomas recipe, and a week to disappear and just doing the jump now and not messing withe the methadone, or just taper super fast this week on the methadone then jump. This *****. Please help and please if you dont personally know methadone dont comment I have read so many different point of views on the subject scaring me off then others saying taper works, I just want people that know to answer. thanks alot for the advice I hate this life I created.

ooh. geez guys thanks. I just took 15 mg today..still feel crappy coming from 80 plus oxycodone yesterday. I really dont know what to do at this point. I am thinking since I dont have the luxury of detoxing this week and dont want to from this high a mg, that I do some 5mg 25 a day, taper down over a week then jump from there. I feel it would be much easier jumping from 15 mg a day oxycodone than any amount of methadone. I do want to point out that my friend will be in control of the doses so I will be getting a weekly amount, tapering as I can and the plan is 4 weeks if it took 6 or 8 ok but no more than 8 and that we'd drop to 5mg within the first week. I would love to get on suboxone or subutex because I was down to so little a few weeks ago if I had just another week or two to taper that down I'd have been able to jump without taking much time off work maybe 2 days max. Thanks for taking the time to reply you guys.

i WAS on the stuff for 6 1/2 yrs you start taking it thining you will get off but you never go off my advise is to leve the stuff alone the withdrawals are horable a lot worst then the perks just taper off the percs you will be miles a head STAY OFF THE METHADONE the one month tapers are brutal we have had members do them do yourself a favor and just go off the percs it will be a much ezer withdrawal and your recovery time will be shorter good luck and God bless......Gnarly

I am on day 11 off a four year 80mg-90mgs. Please listen to my advice. Do not I repeat DO NOT go past 20mgs. It ruins your life I do not agree with methadone I think it's a crutch. I know I was on it for four years but I regret it. I would recommend to anyone that you shouldn't  go to on methadone. It destroyed my life. Some people may not agree with me on that but that's just my personal opinion. But since you have already taken it I would suggest tapering 1mg a week. It won't be so harsh for you because you haven't taken it over a long period of time. Remember addiction is hard but having a crutch for your addiction is harder!
