Confused-looking for general information.

My Mother's boyfriend went into the hospital two weeks ago because of problems with his pancreas (he has had pancreatitis because of alcoholism-he doesn't drink anymore supposedly.) A few days into his hospital visit, he started showing withdrawal symptoms and began having D.T's. They had my mom check if he had any alcohol in the house, he didn't. He was prescribed vicodin for back pain after a surgery 3 months ago, and for some reason the doctor keeps refilling it. He had a prescription for 90 pills written less than 3 weeks before his hospital visit and he had one left. They think this was the cause of his withdrawal. He was getting angry and violent so they sedated him and kept him sedated for almost a week. Three days after being taken out of sedation, he still is confused. The hospital wants to transfer him to a 24 hour care facility because he doesn't need the hospital anymore, but he can't be left alone. Anyway, my question is what would be causing his confusion? And will it most likely go away? He has an 11 year old daughter who I hate thinking would only get to see him in a care facility.

Hard to say, but being sedated for a week and waking up could cause some confusion.  What did they sedate him with ?
