Crystal meth recovery and amino acids

Has anyone else tried using amino acids during crystal meth recovery? This is my first day sober and I just joined the forum. I am already struggling with the fatigue and anxiety. My body is screaming at me to use. I go to my first NA meeting tonight and I'm nervous about what to expect. I'm 39 and married with two teenage children and I feel like everyone will judge me. I've been using for a little over a year. I was advised on another forum that the amino acids could help with energy and depression. I've been trying to quit for 4 months but I will make it at most 7-10 days then relapse. I'm bipolar on top of everything else so I naturally struggle with depression and fatigue to begin with. That is what got me so hooked on meth. The energy felt so amazing. If anyone else can relate it would be good to know I'm not alone.

Hi i was addicted to heroin and crystal meth. Yes the energy is great especially having kids to tend to. Thats one of the reasons that gets us so hooked, the energy, the euphoria, our problems drift away for a while.  But what makes meth so problematic, is it causes us to have a chemical imbalance, and when we come down the whole world feels aweful back in reality, and then before we know it, history is repeating itself again and we use to stop feeling lethargic, tired, unhappy, confused and the vicious circle continues....
We trick and trap ourselves into believing if we have some more, we will feel normal again, but we wont, the drugs are forever mind altering. Your bipolar cant be doing you any favors while using. They both clash with each other. I so hope you can get clean. Ive used meth from 17 to 33 years old. Clean 2 years and never going back, its too easy to give in. Cut off all ties and wipe numbers out your phone is the only way, if you cant do it you wont stop. Good luck.

Thanks for sharing with me and congratulations on 2 years clean! That feels like such a dream to me. Everyone's comments have been so helpful but it is especially good to hear from a former meth user. The statistics I have read on beating this drug are frightening to me. As I sit here today I am so exhausted that I feel like I've been run over by a semi truck! My cravings are through the roof and my mind is telling me that just one hit will take all this misery away. I know these are lies but I just don't know if I'm strong enough to do this. I got some great advice from another member to just take it one day at a time. So for today I'm not using. Tomorrow will be a new day. Do you remember how long the fatigue and cravings lasted? I know you were coming off heroine at the same time so probably a little different! As far as deleting all the numbers and contacts I'm really struggling! I know I have to but one of those people has been a friend for 7 years and I really care about them. They didn't always use either but in the end we were using together.

Hi and welcome to the forum
I also am addicted to opiates.  I have never tried meth but probably would have if it was offered to me.
Will you go through withdrawal?
Maybe you can educate us on what you go through when you stop using meth.
I am sure it's very difficult but also doable.
I agree that NA will welcome you with open arms.

I hope you keep posting for support.

Welcome to the forum...glad you found us~

At the bottom of this page you will found "Most Viewed Health Pages"...there are some good articles in there...but in particular there is one on Amino Acids in recovery.  Here's the link for you:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Addiction/Amino-Acid-Protocol/show/15?cid=66

I think it's great that you are determined to get clean....and so willing to get some after care in place, too.  Opiates happen to be the drug that "got me"....but the substance isn't as important as the process of getting clean and then learning coping skills to stay clean.  I have two very dear loved ones that are both methamphetamine addicts....unfortunately....they are both back in prison again...and have now lost custody of their children.
I love to hear of other addicts finding their way to freedom....I wish you only the best~

Hi Clm ~

So glad you found the forum. I know you'll find support here. My husband's DOC is meth - he has almost 7 years now. He was down on the path a long time... He's journey nothing short of miraculous.

Because I don't know about meth I asked him a bit of what to expect physically, he said the worst bit is the first few days... that's pretty much the same as it is with my DOC (crack). It leaves the system fairly quickly... it's the mental head trip we have to deal with... that's where our addict brain gets in the way.  You have taken amazing steps to get really great support to see you through this and build a solid foundation of sobriety.  ONE day a time. Just today DON'T use. And it will be a good day.

Please tell us how your meeting goes!
Prayers out girl!! IF I can do this, YOU CAN do this!!

Thank you Pamela. I will look into the St. John's Wort. I'm meeting with my Psychiatrist soon but a little unsure if I should disclose my meth use. I know OTC supplements can possibly interfere with other meds. I'm getting good feedback on people's experience with groups so that's good! I'll try to keep an open mind. Take care.

Welcome. My girlfriend used St John wort during her recovery.  I'm not sure it's good with bipolar.
I think amino acids are great overall. Omega 3 is also good.
Congratulations. Most people in support groups are pretty cool. I think you'll have a good experience.  Pamela

Thanks for responding! I wasn't sure if anyone would. I appreciate the insight on meetings and your comment gave me a good laugh which I really needed today. I also agree that addiction is addiction and I'm gaining encouragement from reading other people's posts. I've spent hours on here which is helping to keep my mind off wanting to use. Thanks again.

Hill though I can't help on the meth end of it. I can offer some support on the "being scared or anxious" about a meeting room!
You will go to this meeting and people will love & embrace you from the start! I'm telling you that a recovery room is the only place you can s**t in your pants wave it around and they will still clap and welcome you.
Good luck I don't know how much advise you will get here as far as recovering from meth because this is mainly a forum on opiates , however just remember addiction is addiction..
