Day 22 and sleep

Well I tried taking the 2 Alteril an hour before bed then added the 5mg an hour later. Hubby watched poker in the bedroom and it kept me awake. At 12:00pm I finely took the other half of the ambien. Finely fell asleep. Don't get me wrong, Hubby has a right to watch TV in our bedroom, I just wish he would turn it off before he fell asleep. LOL I did the same thing for months and he didn't say anything, but he's hard of hearing. I ended up with 6 hours sleep. Pretty good!!!!!!!! The Alteril helped me stay asleep so I got some REAL needed rest. I feel fresh and alert this morning. It didn't hurt reading the 31st Psalm either!!! God Bless everyone and have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!

I started with a big cut from 10mg to 5mg. I stayed there until I was sleeping pretty well. Probably around 3 weeks. I really haven't given myself an exact time table. And my doctor agrees. After I was sleeping well I started cutting my pills in thirds instead of half. After that reduction I only had a couple of pretty restless night's. Now I'm cutting the 5 mg into thirds. I'm really in no big hurry to get off the ambien. My next step will be to take a third every other day, then every 2 days and so on til I'm off. Just slow and steady. As long as I never go up in dosage I'm making progress!

Congrats Tooter!  I need to try the Alteril.  I have a drs apt today w/ new dr who I hope will get me straight on tapering off the Xanax.  I don't have 2 cold turkeys in me either.  The opiates are hard enough and when I quit both in March I couldn't make it; it was too much.  The shakes, aches, and sleep deprivation did me in.

Hi tooter. I am 52 or 53 days off Norco, and am working on the ambien now. Together with my Dr we are doing a very slow taper. We just decided my body didn't have another cold turkey in it so soon after the stupid norco. I am taking under 2 mg a night. Every time I reduce my dosage I struggle with sleep for a couple nights. Only get 4 hours or so. Then once I'm sleeping well for a bit we reduce again. All in all I feel pretty good. Just take it slow and steady with that ambien. I've heard it can be a booger getting off!
