Day 4 ughhh

Hi Everyone,

So grateful i found this board. I have been taking pills (opiates) on and off for most of my life. Started working in a pharmacy at 16yrs old and i am now 44. Idecided that i had had enough hide and seek as i call it. So i quit ct on Monday. I am resolved to the fact that i never ever wnat to go through this again!

My question is this; when will my muscles stop hurting? I am feeling a little better each day, but at night my body just aches like i have been beaten with a baseball bat! I have been walking a bit, drinking water and bathing often. My family thinks i have the flu. This has been my dirty little secret forever and i can not tell anyone, which is ok. Again i am grateful to have found this site for the support i need.

Thanks!

Get some OTC meds to help with the symptoms like aleve, dayquil, benedryl, theraflu etc...it really will help.  Buy a heated matress pad it helps lots at night.  Drink tea and take a hot bath before bed.  Take vitamins and an antidepressent like St. Johns wart to help with the mental wd.  Stock up on this stuff and take it it really will help treat yourself like you have the flu and you will get better soon.

thanks for the words of encouragement and support. God knows i have been doing this alone for so long, there is definitely freedom in being able to talk about it.

Hi gnarly...thanks for the welcome. wow, that methadone thing sounds excrutiating! I cant even imagine having to go through this every 6 weeks. I think i'd rather sticks tooth picks in my eyes. I feel for you, i really do.

I had some ativan from last may that the dr gave me for insomnia. I have been taking 1/2 pill each night, but it doesn't seem to help much. I also have been takign excederin during the day. The thing is i need to be really acreful becasue from what i have read ativan is addicting as well. i dont need to w/d from that too!

At least i am in the home stretch. I know i can do this. Up to this point most of the strentgh is not my own. Good luck to you and thanks again.

Congratulations on making it to day four!  Days three and four are the worst and it's downhill after that.  Day five will be a little better, day six will be better than that, day seven will be better still and by days 9, 10, 11 you'll be pretty much through with the wd symptoms.  The wd symptoms seem to vary from person to person and of course they also depend on the amount of pills taken and the length of time they were taken for but I haven't heard of anyone who was suffering for more than 14 days.

The important thing is you're on day four which means you're at the point where things begin getting easier.

It takes about a week depending on how much you were taking. Good work on 5 days clean!! Sounds like you are ready. I would say hard part is almost over.
You can take some advil. That will help alot. Warm baths or showers, heating pad.
Walking is a good thing too.

Hang in there!!!!

Thanks for the encouragement.

Sorry you have to go through this too. My poor husband. I had him up all night because of my tossing and turning with the leg thing. I'm thinking the couch may be a good place to stay until this nightmare is over.

It's amazing just how many people are addicted to this crap. As i said I started long ago as a teenage experimenting thing and then about 6 years ago developed teeth problems and the docs gave them out like candy. I have been a prisoner to them eer since. I didn't even have the ability to wean. ZERO self control.

I must be insane, because I am actually considering quitting smoking tomorrow. I figure, get it all out of my system at once. I dont want to set myself up for failure either.

Sorry for my rambling. Good luck to you. I hope to see you on here often. Lets not give up on ourselves. Our families are waiting for us to "come back".

HI and welcome to the forum....well as for your question you should start to feel better
starting around day 5 for most people....day 4 is considered by most to be the ruffest  day...I dont mean to laff but you describe the feeling "like beeing beaten with a baseball
bat ......that is my exact words when I went thew it...I had a long hard habit to break
10+ yrs on the pills then 6 1/2 yrs on methadone...the last 6 weeks of tapering on methadone was 4 days of he11  with day 3 and 4 both feeling like the bat thing
the difference with tapering off methadone is you get to go thew it ever time you drop you dose in the last 6 weeks so just about the time your feeling better you have to drop doses again and do it all over....so I fell you pain...and will never forget mine..just know you close to the end...keep up with the hot baths...that seamed to help me the most you can try some otc pain meds like motrin it seams to help a bit
just don't give in your almost there...YOU CAN DO THIS...it just takes some perseverance..and with time you will start to feel better..good luck and god bless

Hey,
This site is great.  Unfortunately, I dont have that answer.  I just wanted to say that I am kinda in the same boat...on them for 2 years.  Trying to wean off right now.  When I wake i feel like i fell out a window and forget about sleep...i toss and turn all night.  this too is a secret from my family.  i know how awful you feel.  we will get through this though, as hard as it is.  keep your head up.  take some tylenol at night.  that's what i do upon waking and it helps. good luck to you.
