Decided not to come off subs

Hey guys.  I decided that it isn't a good idea to come off of subs I wanted to free of them but I decided that it would be unproductive in my recovery I'm going to cut my dose down from 12mg to 8mg per day soon and stick with that.  I'm also going to be on the site more often to help any newcomers and answer any questions that I think I can help with. =]

It sound like you have a plan. I didn`t know you were in therapy too. We all have to do what works for us. I wish you luck. I just worry about anybody ending up where I`m at.

I understand. The pain drugs block your own natural pain blockers. That is why we are in so much pain when getting off the pain meds. It takes time for our natural pain blockers to realize there aren`t drugs doing it`s job. Suboxone and Methadone both have long half lives and take longer to leave your system than other pain meds. I`ve been cutting down slowly and can feel the pain coming back, but I know that as the methadone leaves my system, my own pain blocker will start working again. I went on narcotic pain meds when I was 25. I`m now 53 and the damage they have done to my body will never be healed. I just hate to think of you ending up the same way. Sooner or later you will HAVE to get off the pain meds. I wish I had known then what I know now. At least consider it. Taper down to as little as you can. The smaller the dose, the easier it will be to go all the way off and be clean. You will feel a lot better if you are all the way off and your own pain blockers are working like they should. I missed so many things because I was dependant on pain drugs to get by each day. It has been a major part of my everyday life for the past 27 years. Time passes very fast and before you know it, you`ll be like me. That isn`t good. I`ll support you in whatever you chose to do as will everybody else on here. I/we just want you to be healthy.

I think it's a good idea to stay on subs.that's what I'm doing I'm taking 8mg and it keeps the cravings at bay and lets me work on my recovery and meetings and therapy. I'm in no rush to get off sub its nothing like a pain killer like oxy. Do what u think is best for u and don't listen to all the hype about sub.

Are you absolutly sure this is what you want to do?  Is there a real medical reason you need to be on pain pills?  I`m trying to come off methadone after 7 years, which is a lot like what you are doing. I`m just trying to figure out why you want to stay on the medicine. You do know it isn`t good for you or your body and the longer you are on it the harder it will be to come off it because of the half life?  I really hope you think twice about it because you are pretty young and have a lot of years ahead of you. You will get support here for whatever you decide.
