Depressed and Worried

On subs for 4 months. Doing great all this time, but find that lately I genuinley  (sp)? have a craving to  get a "buzz". I didn't for so long.......what's up?  I suppose I just miss the "buzz" feeling after all this time of not having one. Very disheartening and worrysome.....Maybe if my doctor actually councelled me I would not be feeling this?

We were talking about NaLTREXone not Nalexone.

Naltrexone is an opioid receptor antagonist used primarily in the management of alcohol dependence and opioid dependence. It is marketed in generic form as its hydrochloride salt, naltrexone hydrochloride, and marketed under the trade names Revia and Depade. In some countries including the United States, an extended-release formulation is marketed under the trade name Vivitrol. It should not be confused with naloxone, which is used in emergency cases of overdose rather than for longer-term dependence control

Naloxone is a drug used to counter the effects of opioid overdose, for example heroin or morphine overdose. Naloxone is specifically used to counteract life-threatening depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system. It is marketed under various trademarks including Narcan, Nalone, and Narcanti, and has sometimes been mistakenly called "naltrexate." It is not to be confused with Naltrexone, another opioid receptor antagonist with qualitatively different effects, used for dependence treatment rather than emergency overdose treatment

Hope things are well sister!

You are so right on. My problem is that I take Sub when I don't really even need it. I am convinced it is all a mental thing with me now. When I wake up in the morning I  think I"need" to melt one. But really I don't because I feel ok.  It is unfortunately all in my head. Somehow my head tells my body I need it and my body is saying, "You feel ok, you don't need it, so why are you taking it"? That is what is so frustrating for me.  I want to cut back so badly but haven't been able to convince my head that I can, And I know I can.  Therein lies the reason for the counseling, correct?

I had not heard that naloxone worked against cravings but if u take something u wont feel it so in a counter way...it does...your mind is in control of cravings...not the naloxone...but knowing it is a waste of time to take a narc when on sub would make cravings much better i would think...researched and have been working with my pain doctor closely in my spare time studying his sub patients..I have taken an interest in it and we ar close so he lets me without divulging any confisential info...he is also an addict in recovery and in my NA group... From what i understan..the narcotic portion of the sub is helping the cravings as well/satisfying them.....but i guess u would still miss the rush...long term use will make it relatively easier but not impossible to relapse...but it is a plan...when u get off i would think u will need to join the rest of the people on this boat and try to stay afloat and get some aftercare so u dont relapse...

MEETINGS, THERAPY, GROUPS, NA,  SOMETHING!!!  Can't stress that enough!!!!  You need some sort of aftercare!  I just don't want you to set yourself up for failure by hoping for a miracle in that by being off of your DOC and on Subs for 6 or 8 months or whatever, that you are free of addiction.  Marcarj is absolutely right!  Subs are a TOOL not a fix.  I've been on drugs of some sort for 15 years.  Some years it was simply pot, some years it was smoking meth.  Some obviously it was taking LEGAL drugs-prescribed by doctors.  Whatever the case may be, cravings are there.  And you are damn right it's depressing.  I've decided that unless I'm not actively working against my addiction with my guards up, swords drawn, I'm submitting to it, surrenderring to my addiction, waiting to relapse with my pipe in hand, or script, or straw, or what have you.  You've got to start working harder and it's got to be now.  You've come a long way though!!!  Great job honey!  And Good Luck.  If you want to look up meetings in your neighborhood google NA and the state you are in.  They're a blessing!  ☺

Bubba,
I was told by one of my doctors (I swear last year I had 2 doctors, now I have like 5 or 6) that the Naltrexone DOES work against cravings too, actually I was prescribed it for that reason, but I never took it because I was scared I was taking too many different drugs.  LOL.

I hear Naltrexone can help with cravings too. Eventually i'm going to get the implants done after i swap to Sub, when timing is right

yes, i think counceling is important.  the Sub is a tool (I am on it too) but not a fix.  i believe there is more work to do.  the cravings go away at first on Sub.. but in my experience, they DO come back.  so some other form of "help" needs to be in the mix...

posting WILL help.  and if you ever journaled, read back on just how BAD you felt when addicted to the pills.

NO buzz is worth that.

so counceling, N/A, posting here, etc.. all worth to add to the fight in staying clean.  perhaps even a sponsor....

good luck, sweety...

I think if your Dr. did that it would help yes, and I am not sure about Sub, but I still crave too, and I have heard that some still do even after 4-6months. It will pass, hopefully sooner rather than later. Wishing you all the best.
