Detox Hospital Making Threats

I had a meeting with Centennial Peaks Hospital yesterday to discuss the different programs they may have available to me...I am trying to wean myself down and off of a 10 a day 15g Oxycodone habit. I realize that I have a problem and am exploring all of my options at this time. I am incredibly motivated to get off of these horribe pills!  I met with a counselor at the detox facility last night and when I explained that I would not be checking in with them, one of the counselor got a bit nasty and told me that she would alert CPS to.take my kids away from me.  What should I do? They we're just using scare tactics...weren't they???

That's BS. I read some of your previous posts and see what you are taking daily... Around what I take daily and I have no problem being a mom. I also looked at photos of your beautiful family and I think if a CPS agent really did come out to evalueate you they wouldn't be able to prove you are an unfit mother plus you have a good husband right? My sister has been using meth for years and was even on it when her second child was born and CPS has been out to her place numerous times and she still has her kids. The fact that they threatened you like this when you were trying to get help really pisses me off. Places like this can really deter someone from getting future help. It sounds to me like they are mad because they didn't get your money but I also suggest contacting a lawyer. I wouldn't worry too much though. I don't know what state your in but here in Texas... A pretty tough state... CPS is a joke. Keep us posted... Sorry for typos posting from an iPhone mistakes are bound to happen.

I agree with Kajama . I live in California and I am sure there is a confidentiality factor here . You should check your local laws as like Avisg said it could differ from state to state ......

I contacted a detox program on my own and asked them the same questions about if I gave them information would they share it with other agencies (I got mine illegally) They told me there was a confidentuality act that they could not disclose any information unless I was planning on hurting myself or anyone else.  I told them of my problem and never heard from CPS. You are trying to get help for yourself.  Now in my situation I do have a husband that has never been an addict, I don't know if that made a different. I worked in a doctor office and could not disclose any info on patients that had a drug problem unless they were a danger to there self or others, and if they were looking for help then that was a plus.

I agree with other posters, the place your going to doen't have your best interest at heart. As long as your getting the pills legally they have NO leverage against you. I would suggest asking your primary doctor if he/she has any suggestions for places you can look for counselling.

CPS isn't there to rip families apart, they're there to keep them together.

if this place does call CPS all you have to do is comply with any requests CPS has of you.

I think using an interview to get you to open up about your problem then using that info against you as leverage to get you to sign up is insidious and deplorable.

That place DOES NOT have your best interest at heart.  You are obtaining the pills legally and your doctor is fully aware of your use.

Their actions are despicable.  If their workers are willing to go to that length, imagine the great "care" you will get when they have your money.

RUN from that place and don't fear their underhanded and legally hollow threats!!!!!!!

I wouldn't worry then. Let them call CPS...so what??  Many people have rx's AND children. If you didn't sign anything,it sounds like scare tactics. Very nasty of them.

Just keep working with your doctor and checking in here for support. You'll do fine and good for you for getting off the pills.

Yes, I get the pills from my primary care dr. He and I have been working thru a weaning schedule for a few weeks now...per my request. I'm just going to have to speed up the process I guess...which is just fine with me actually!  I hate life or lack there of while taking them anyway. Makes me sick to think of all the time I've missed!!

Mark yes it always money when they try c rap like that but i can assure you they wont do anything to break the law they know what they can do and legally abusing drugs can considered abuse or neglect if you have children

So very true.   There are so many places out there, some less "kind" than others, some want you in so bad (monetary reasons) that they will resort to saying anything to get you in.    Avisg is right, call some other places first, just see what they have to say, you might be surprised.

They may be able to do that ....laws probably differ from state to state  but yes if the feel your ids are in danger in then that is probably legally what they have to do however you dont have to go there look at other places on the area or get yourself into an outpatient   program i don't think I would test them to see if they are using it to scare you.

It might be hard to undestand, but if they believe (either true or perceived), that you might endanger yourself or your kids, it's possible.  Believe it or not, they do have some moral obligation and generally legal obligatios to ensure that you and your kids are well taken care of (especially if you mention hurting yourself -- not saying that you did, but that's one of the factors).  If I were you, I'd make an appointment to go back to them to explore outpatient care ( if available) and to ATTEND EVERY APPOINTMENT.

You do have to realize that they see many of us a day and they may say anything to get you into care.  It might be hard to believe right now, but they ARE after your best interests and the interests of your kids.

Call them now, say you'd like to come back to talk and that it's time to make things right for yourself and your family.

They may use scare tatics, it's what they do to make you cry/mad and motivated to do the right thing.    Would you rather lose your kids or get off the pills?  Pretty simple choice, huh?

You know you want to, you know it's the best thing to do.   It will be hard for a little while, but it does get better, trust me on this.    If you have relatives that can watch the kids for a few days, it will even be a little easier without the added stress.

Please do keep is posted.  Do what's right for you and your loved ones, you deserve a better life without mind altering chemicals.
