Detox at home

I am taking a weeks vacation a week from now from work for (9) days total if you count the weekends (staying home). I have been involved over the last 6 years in 2 (30) day in patient programs.I have been diagnosed and suffer from Bipolar, PTSD and chronic back pain due to my term in the US Army and 2 car accidents. I have quit just about everything including Seroquel (which was very hard to get off of)  and have cut down on all of the benzodiazepines i have been prescribed as well. Only takinga prescribed dose of Klonopin (1mg x 3 per day) I have degenerative disc disease in L4, L5, wedging of T12 vert and spyndalosis in multiple C verts. I tried over past Thanksgiving to stop all opiates and almost made it. Was a rough 4 days but could not do it. Does anyone have experience with this, i need to stop it and understand the pain involved but is 9 days enough to go back to work normal? Any advise would be helpful.

Bipolar complicates opioid withdrawal. Tomorrow while at your Dr you need to address the medication issue.  I'm not a huge fan of mood stabilizers but can tell you CT off your pain meds might trigger your bipolar.  This may be the reason you started using again right now.  You need more help. Your plan isn't working.  Get a psychiatrist on board. You want a successful recovery.  I'll help if I'm able to. I suffer chronic pain & deal with bipolar & am in recovery.   Pamela

Mine started in the military. Was recently taking 4 15's at a time 4 times a day or more a day just to feel normal and have energy to function normally. I did end up taking 60mgs today and should just go to bed. I know if I took another it would be a waste. I still have 5 days until going back to work and don't know if I took 15 or 30 a day for a few days would help me start to wean. I just don't know what to do. I have PTSD and bipolar depression. I personally took myself off of allot of those meds which was hard but now having second thoughts. I am scheduling an appointment with my doctor but can't take anymore time off. I've kept this hidden for some time but see me losing it all if I don't get this resolved and quickly.

i did an at home detox a few years back going c/t at the time i was taking between 10-20 30mg roxies a day.....i'm not going to lie to you it was hell but well worth it.

9 days is def long enough for the sickness and for you to work....but it is not long enough for the mental and emotional part....your thoughts are going to be scattered its gonna be hard to concentrate and your gonna be feeling high on life one moment and low as can be the next.

everyone is different though some ppl think the sickness is the harder part some say the mental.....im not really sure what it was for me.....what i did was i took family medical leave and stayed home for a month not sure if thats an option for you.

i managed to stay clean for a year but here i am once again scared of failing scared of going thru hell and having to do it again...tired of putting my family thru pain

I just don't get it? When I was in treatment on previous occasions I saw people with major opiate abuse that is not even compared to mine up and about interacting in groups, eating, and functioning within 3-5 days. Within a week or too and were playing basketball going to gym and not complaining. I was in for alchol but this is kicking my butt. I have to kick this. This is crazy, I am at a complete loss. I haven't even had energy to shower or brush my teeth until I took one medicine. I Instantly felt better. I am completely dis gusted with myself. Can not believe after almost 4 days one medicine gave me energy and appetite. I don't want to come back from my so called vacation 20lbs lighter either. Be hard to explain as I am 6'3 235-240 average weight. Even my sweat pants are falling off now after a few days.

Regarding my vacation at home detox, I made it 3 1/2 days. Couldn't sleep, eat and lost almost 10 lbs and just couldn't cold turkey it. I am going to discuss this with my doctor. Very anxious and in allot of pain and have no real support system. I recovered and still in recovery from alcohol in 2007 after a very intensive inpatient program. I just can't loose my job or life over this wicked addiction. Sorry. I am trying. I think weaning might be my answer but will see what my doctor has to say as well. Will post and keep updating if anyone is interested.

Hello and welcome..

Congrats on making the decision to rid yourself opiates and gain control of your life back.. I am 49 days clean and it was the best decision I ever made and it WILL be for you as well. This forum will provide you with the support and information you will need over the next 5-7 days. I suggest looking at the bottom of this page for the Thomas recipe.. Just eliminate the volume and benzo's it suggests as I saw from your post that you have stopped using them and you do it without (I did).. Basically you already know what your in for so I'm going to get into what to expect except that you just need to keep your resolve and focus -- once you get through the fist four or five days you will be through and by day 9 you should be very close to being past the pysicals if not completely done.. Anyway, more people will be by with suggestions and support.. Keep this forum close to you and continue to post WE are here to help support you so keep posting and we will keep responding.. Again, congrats on your decision!!! Based on your post you have been through a lot and this is not going to be easy but it is doable it just going to require some work but it's a small price to pay to have back your life... All the best!!!

I believe nine days is sufficient...you may not feel normal after that, but you will surely be able to work...just make sure that you get rid of all of your pills and cut the source of, temptation is a b itch, so be careful...get good rest when you can and start walking or other exercise as soon as you can...try not to watch the clock...you really should be on the mend after no more than five days, maybe earlier...good luck.
