Detox starting tomorrow

I have been on morphine 70mg er daily for a year. I haven't taken any in about 3 days but have been taking lortab. Tomorrow I am starting to wean myself off both. I am wondering if the morphine is out of my system yet? If not, its the detox off morphine worse than the detox off lortab? I have detoxed off lortab before but am wondering about the mixture. I am praying I will be able to stay sober this time for the long haul. I have enrolled in an intensive outpatient program and have been going to AA regularly and have let all my people in on what I have been doing so I can be accountable to people.

Tapering off any drug is very difficult and take alot of willpower. As Vicki pointed out it takes weeks to taper so please don't think (or try) you can do it in a matter of days. If you try that you are only setting yourself up for failure. I know that may sound harsh but I just want to give you REAL advice not just fluff.

You should try going cold turkey it is not the most pleasant experience but its over in 5-7 days. You feel like you have a really bad flu but you will live. You can take the Thomas Recipe (found on the health page) minus the valium. Keep yourself hydrated and nourished, so drink alot of juice, water and protein drinks. You can do this so just go for it. I will pray for you God Bless---Rick

Like Vicki said both drugs will give you the same withdrawal symptoms. What is important now is not to pick up using Morphine again if you've been off of them for 3 days.  As for the Lortab, you actually substituted one for the other, so the right thing to do at this point is either quit them cold turkey or ask the advice of a nurse on here for a tapering method.  I can tell you from my own experience that tapering will soften the blow, but you will still feel sick.  The physical symptoms will only last about 5 days, like having the flu.  If you can handle the flu, then you can suck it up and do this.  :o) I was so fearful of what to expect when it came to withdrawal and this fear kept me in an addiction longer than I needed to be.  Its been 65 days since I last took a pain pill and one thing is for certain, I will never go back.  Good luck and if you want to talk, I am here. - Kelly

That's great, get that support system built. I have been reading this forum for months and it is slowly getting me there. I am finding a medicine called lyrica helps many with cravings, and has a calming effect. There are bad and good reports but many people are prescribed this and have it in there bag not realizing it does really help when u run out of meds at months end. Hang in there I am really trying too. I live in the abyss. we do have 3 NA Meetings a week... I guess u just go to the AA meetings that fall in between. Oh well, siupport is support. keep writing though. I am finding it keeps your mind off it and maybe we can learn to help others out of there pain.

What do you mean you're weaning off of both tomorrow? Are you taking both morphine and Lortab?

It's going to be difficult to determine what drug you're withdrawing from...they both boil down to the same thing when it comes to detox. When you wean or taper it does lessen the impact, but you'd need to wean way down over several weeks.
