Difference between MS Contin and MS/IR

What is MS Contin and what is MS/IR.  They are both morphine?  Does the Contin mean extended release and the IR mean immediate release. The MS/IR also has the letters IMN REO.  I'm trying to find out if the MS/IR can be cut in half for tapering. Thanks to all that reply.

If a pill is scored, then it is usually possible to cut it in half..but u should still check with the druggist to be sure.....IR...instant release is released instantly so cutting it in half would not matter...
.
Usually the pills release time is controlled by the coating on the pill...thicker, thinner, even double coated which will break down at a certain time etc..an instant release pill would have a very thin coating/usually cellulose or a plastic of some type...
