Thanks to all of you for your support. I really do appreciate it!
I know that I will get some harsh responses from this but I am really trying to understand everything so that I can make the right decision. I have heard that there are people that take either Sub or Methadone forever & live perfectly normal lives. I think that is what I just ASSUMED I would do so perhaps I am on the wrong post. I truly never thought about a goal or getting off something else. All I could think about was not getting sick, having enough pills to make it to my appt. to get the Sub. I couldn't think past that. That is awesome that some of you can have a plan & know exactly what you want. But I promise, leading up to my appt. all I was thinking was just get thru one day at a time & not running out of my pills until I got there. So my question: everyone is warning me about the meth & I need the advice believe me but are you saying that the only thing bad about the meth is the wds? Did it curb your cravings while you took it? Did you have energy? Depression? Did you feel normal, able to work & take care of your family? Was the drive to the clinic everyday a real pain in the %^& or did it become part of your routine? I think some of you said that at the clinics the sky is the limit on dosing but as addicts it is never enough, does that mean you would use other things as well. If I tell my Dr that I want to stay on it forever-what will that be like? Will I eventually be dropped to just a small dose that I could take at home? Would I still have cravings then?
Ok, with the SUB, my Dr said I am at the highest dose at 8mg 3 xd but I see others are taking more. Did any of you experience these cravings until your dose was increased? What would be the long term problems with taking Sub forever? I guess I sound stupid to some of you but my point is, if I found something wether it be sub or meth that was legally prescribed to me in an adeqaute dose that would control my pain & addiction so that I can lead a normal life then why do some of you think it is so bad. People take meds everyday for their entire lives for lots of conditions, why not addiction?

I sent u a message earlier but I don't think it ever went thru. I am not familiar with dihydrocodeine. I tried to research it but didn't find much one place even said it didn't exsist. Is it the stuff in cough meds? My Dr didn't mention it as an option. Do u get urs from a pain management dr? Can u tell me more about it? I noticed more so in the past 2 days that the sub is making me drowsy during the day but then I wake up thru the night. Almost fell asleep on my way to work! I want to thank everyone for their advice. I have decided I will not take Methadone! Now I just have to figure out what to do about the pain. The sub isn't going to work for me for pain control. It might work if I could stay home all day & didn't have a 3 yr old to chase after but I have no choice but to work & take care of my son. I guess everyone will get upset with me for saying this but I wish I could just go back to my pain management Dr & tell him the truth & see if he would still see me but monitor me with weekly counts/ua's. Is there a dr out there that will treat me now??? Doubt it!!

This is my question Shoe. Do you want to get clean or do you want to be taking hard drugs for the rest of your life. I only ask this because all the drrugs you are talking about are hard drugs and i am truly worried for your safety as you dont really know enough about them to be taking them and please dont think i am being nasty or judgemental because im not im just concerned about you. To me methadone is the same as heroin, if not stronger as there is no cut in methadone.You are dicing with death with methadone,the same as we were with heroin  please believe me. I only want to help and for you to make the best decision. It seems that you want to go to a stronger drug every time. Here in Scotland you wouldnt even get methadone. You would have to be a heroin addict to get it here. I honestly believe that in your country a lot of your drs are legal drug dealers. They are only interested in money. Im not saying all of them are but a lot of them are only interested in money.But no dr in our country would prescrtibe methadone for pain or for a buzz. Also i agree with gnarly about people noticing theres something up as most people i know just drop off during mid sentence, theres not much chance of you taking it without the side effects, and also about mixing it with other drugs, that is the most dangerous drug to be mixing.If you want to live a normal life then you must suffer the w/ds theres no way out of that. There are other pain meds you can get. Also when you say you want to use while taking the subs, taking methadone wont mean you wont still crave your doc. These are mental cravings we all have and nothing can stop that either. Another thing you should really take into account is that drs are reading from books. We are real life addicts and we have all been there, done it. Maybe its because we dont like methadone as its killed some of our friends and left the others with their lives ruined. Queing up in the Green Mile every morning. I seriously think you should lok into other pain meds such as dihydrocodeine. Beleive me i suffer severe pain and thats what i take. There will never be a drug that takes all my pain away, except heroin of course, but i dont want to be living life in a drug induced state, therefore i have to put up with some pain, which most of us addicts do Good luck.....Kim

you say good things sometimes gnarly but that 'girlee" could be annoying.I'm am not trying to be a P&%#. Some people function well on methadone and others don't. It makes most people look sedated, sweat a lot and become chronicly constipated which can be dangerous. Methadone will stop giving you a buzz except for maybe a little while right after taking it. Other people have said it and again, if you keep going up and taking more for effect, you could die. The clinics of today are glad to give you as much as you want and this makes people very low functioning and sleep a lot and nod. There are also other mental effects that high dose methadone have at high doses that you don't get at low doses. I functioned ok when I first got on methadone (at about 50 mg.) for the first few years. In my later years at high doses, I didn't function and ended up in intitutions a lot. I hope you make the right choice.

Hey Girlee glad to see you asking more questions b/4 diving into methadone..
well to answer some of them ...yes it will curb your cravings...BUT and a big but
if you want to get high you will be risking your life mixing different drugs with methadone
this scares me a bit with you because your still looking for a buzz...it could prove fatal
there was a girl that was taking 80ml of methadone ...took 1 zanex and dident wake up the next day..if your wrong with methadone your DEAD wrong...as for living a normal life
yes you can sorta...methadone sorta leaves you in a fog that you don't realize till you off it...your also prone to nod off at the most inappropriate times like during social gatherings or at the movies ..my wife wanted me to get checked out for a sleeping disorder and it was the methadone the whole time..as for going to the clinic in a word it su##s but its part of the prossess  they also do random u/a's to screen for drug use if your using on the side you will be restricted to going there dayly...if your clean follow the program after about 6mo they will start to give you take home privlages
personally I wouldn't be making decisions for the rest of your life b/4 you know what your geting yourself into...right now if you where just to bit the bullet go thew the withdrawals you could be narcotic free in a short wile...if you go the methadone route it can be months of agonizing withdrawals as well as a few months after b/4 you feel better..you got to weigh it out a week or so of misery or months of it at a later date when the side effects start to get to you and you want to get clean..as i said b/4 methadone is no way to spend the rest of your life...you might not notice it but others around you will no something is up with you...theirs no free ride on narcotics...hope this brigs you some insite on what to do....good luck and God bless ...Gnarly

Hey, I think it's good that you are asking all the questions that are rattling around in your head. This isn't a decision you should take lightly. You are correct. People do take meds everyday for their entire life. You just have to decide if you want that. I took subs for 3 days to help with wd's after that. nothing. I have chronic feet pain. I'm taking nothing but ibuprophen for the pain. It's kinda useless. I hurt,ache,throb, and burn. But I'm clean. That was my decision. If your pain is so bad that you can't ever quit taking meds, then go with the meth. Just take it the right way and behave. You'll be fine. Sometimes we just have to accept things the way they are. I'm here for you if you need someone.
