Lithium is a very intricate drug...actually an element and not a drug that affects chemical exhange between the cells...there are many drug interactions so you need to check all drugs u take when u r on when u also take lithium...many bipolar patients are not compliant with lithium as i causes them to "come down" off their manic phase which many bipolar patients are much "happier" than the alternative as mania to many is a hyperactive state that is very productive for them....anything that affects urine concentration can affect levels...especially alcohol...check with ur doctor...Lithium has one of the highest non-compliant rates of any mood disorder drug on the market
We don't know your history your doctor of course does ,lithium does work very well for some people ,but you need to be getting routine blood work.
You have a lot going on here. Withdrawals, possible post-partum depression and lithium. I would definitely get your Dr involved in this. Let them know of the suicidal thoughts and your depression. There are things they can do for you.
jenn, you dose may need to be adjusted let you doc know how you are feeling
just a thought...maybe it's the lithium that is increasing your depresion..That is a pretty heavy drug..
I responded on your other post..lithium is a mood stablizer..others include halcion, haldol etc.. I suggest looking it up through google and it will tell you everything you need to know..does it have an info packet with it? have you taken it for the whole month? maybe you nedd to try a different one..PM triedeverymed..she has experience with this..
Your dr. should be monitoring your blood levels. Are they doing that? I took lithium MANY YEARS ago, it's a pretty old-fashioned drug and I don't think it's effective. I didn't notice a difference except weight gain.
