Does anyone know?

Does anyone know what the likelyhood is of my baby not showing any signs of withdrawals to opiates or if he does show signs of withdrawals how long it will last?  I use up to 20 mg of oxycontin a day, and have been at that for approximately 4 weeks now.  The ultrasounds have all shown an active over 6lbs baby boy and I am 3 weeks to delivery date.  I have all of my support people in place, OB, Midwife, Child Protective Services advocate, clinical therapists and my partner.  I eat well, and am hydrated, I exercise and get plenty of rest.  I take a maternal supplement plus iron pills for anemia.  I have no outstanding concerns and by all indications my pregnancy is healthy and normal.

You need to be honest with your OB and share the info about your oxy use with him/her.  This way...they can be on the look out in CASE symtpoms of withdrawals arise.  Even though your dose is low....there is still a good chance your baby will have w/d's.  Think of it this way...the baby is accustomed to that drug in his system, and after birth, it will abruptly stop.

Always, for the safety of your baby, and yourself....be 100% upfront with your doc BEFORE labor.

Best of luck to you!
