Does taking tramadol just delay hydro withdrawal?

No hydrocodone for 16 days now. Was using 150 mg day for years. Did 3 day hosp subutex detox two weeks ago. No subcutex since then. Also have very painful acute prostate infection and been on cipro for a week. Urologist gave me tramadol for pain. Taking 200 mg day. Is this just postponing hydrocodone wd symptoms? Only other symtom legs feel sore and heavy. Don't know if my feeling like sh*t is from wd or infection. Does wd amplify pain from an infection? And how long should 'normal' wd last for someone like me? 6'3".   260 lbs.  Thanks

I did the same but I've never mentioned it on here for the same reasons.  On top of that I was coming off of seriously high amounts of norcos and like the sick addict I am I therefore took large amounts of the tramadol.  After a couple days of that I happened to read a little about em online and come to find out there's a seizure risk associated with taking anything over about half of what I was taking.

From what I've read on here and elsewhere I get the feeling that those things could be really hard to come off of.

its just me but I have used trams to taper off Norco and vics there is just something in the stuff that don't do it for me and helps the wd DONT recommend it because MANY on this site are fighting to get off tram so to each his own but be careful it could get you trapped on tram island....

It's interesting how easy it is to get sick during the withdrawal process. I got a very bad chest/head cold during mine and it was hard to determine if I was feeling bad because of being sick or withdrawals. When using I never got sick, I don't know if the pills just mask it or what but I have seen a lot of people say the same thing. I even read one theory that our body temp is higher when taking opiates which somehow keeps bacterial and viral infections from progressing. Seems a bit far fetched but I do know it's common for people to report rarely getting sick while on opiates.

I think having the infection is going to make you feel pretty bad. Yes, Tramadol will delay or cut down on wd's from Hydrocodone. The thing is...if you're in pain, which I believe you are, you need the pain relief. But as soon as you're feeling better, taper off the Tramadol.

Too bad this happened but you're doing well and you'll feel better soon. Keep your fluid intake up and eat well. You'll get there!

Yes it will delay the withdrawal because Tramadol hits on many of the same Mu receptors on the brain, it has a horrible withdrawal by itself. Many people use Tramadol to temporarily avoid withdrawal from more powerful opiates until they are able to get more. It's a step down from the subs and hydro but still pretty powerful.

They used subs for 3 days while you were doing the detox? Not sure what's the point of that besides maybe stepping you down but 3 days is very short for tapering. Subs stay in your system for awhile so the withdrawal process will take longer but won't hit you as hard.

My suggestion is to try to substitute the trams for ibuprofen otherwise you are just going to keep dragging out your withdrawal. If you are ok with more of a taper then maybe just drop to 50mg of the trams, your withdrawal won't be as severe but will last longer.

I can tell you tramdol is worse to come off of! It is an opiate with a antidepressant in it! If you are on day 16 I would stay as far away from trams as possible! WD will amplify the pain for a few days while your mind reboots!
I am working on day 11 for the 3rd time and finally starting to feel better pain level is a lot lower! You can do this and you are doing good..
How long were you using? WD can last physically about 5-7 days then the mental kicks in. It was about a good 3 months the first time I stopped before I started feeling like myself again after using for over 10 years. It all depends on how much and how long you used.
