I take hydrocod and ambien. I sometimes have itchy rash all over my body at night. Not always.

Mixing those 2 medications are counterproductive assuming you're not allergic to ambien. I broke out into hives before, but it was after taking too many opiates. High as a kite but itching all over. It might be rare, but hives could cause swelling in the throat area constricting the airway. I won't speculate further as a doctor would be more qualified but I think you should consult one to determine the cause.
