Encouragement for others

Yay, week 2 has come and gone.
I want to say it can be done,  it has been done.
I would like to say without any complications but that's just a fairy tale.
For those that are wondering what's it like at the 2nd week, it's great.
I have spells of depression,  anxiety,  soft stool, knees a week sometimes and the sneezing.  The sneezing is the worst for me because I've never like sneezing even when I was a kid.
I know it's only a phase and all this is going to pass.
If I can give any words of encouragement for those that are going through their own battles, it would be to give it to God.
He's in control, with him it can be done.
Those wondering what I've took to get here.
Tram adolescent 8 to 10+ 50mg a day for over 2 years, before that I was on Lora tab 10 for many years.
Keep fighting,  it's worth it even if you're not feeling like much.

I'm going to promise that I will seek n/a,  staying clean to me is so important even if I feel it's forced sometimes.
I have to stay clean,  it means more to me now than ever

Great Job my friend!! I never doubted you one bit!!

Pillguy, great post!! ^^ John, read that post very carefully! It's so spot on:-)

I just want to add, and you probably remember, but I detoxed during a move, got here, felt great and Boom!!!! Hurt my back and took pills for a week then got back off!

I guess what I am trying to say is, don't overdo it!! Your feeling great now but moving is stressful enough the way it is! Be mentally prepared.... You may not see it, but what myself and others are trying to tell you about NA is so true. What is it going to hurt if you go to at least one meeting now?? It doesn't matter if your moving. I have been exactly where you are RIGHT NOW and I made the mistake of feeling great yet not mentally prepared.

We only preach this bc so many have been there, we have relapsed and we have learned that there's so much more to long term recovery than getting through withdrawals. I wish it was that easy, but unfortunately it's just not! Others see something that you don't, and that's okay, it's normal!!
Just PLEASE don't put it off! Your sobriety should be #1 amongst everything else right now!

Again, I only care and want nothing more than to see you beat this!!

Hugs,
Ash

I know I'm ready to get on a personal level with going to meetings. I know ow it sounds like excuses when I say I want to get back to my home state and start my N/A but I fell starting here only to move a week and a half from now wouldn't be the right thing.
I do like to find a local group if we decide to stay

Hey dude congrats on 2 weeks  the phyical withdrawal is over  now it is time to put a plan in place for the ''mental mindscrew''  for me the magic bullet has been the N/A progam  it has been years since I started but today I have lost the very desire to get high  something I though was impossible  I recamend this progam to all recovering addicts  it is free and it works if you work it..........Gnarly

Congratulations to all of you!  This really does take a serious dose of intestinal fortitude.  You all have every right to be proud.  This is one of the most difficult things a person face.

As for the sneezing; I don't know what the mechanism is but its not from snorting drugs.  Its a common symptom of opiate withdrawal.  It passes fairly quickly.

The soft stools are a result of the neurons in the in the gut.  the gut has the largest number of neurons outside the brain.  They are part of the enteric nervous system.  Opiates interact with these neurons causing constipation.  When we  quit, well, not so constipated.  You've probably read that imodium works well.  And it does.  That's because its a modified opiate itself.  It can't cross the blood-brain barrier but still affects the gut in the same way as any other opiate.

Now for the more serious news.  All of you will most likely go through a period of lethargy and depression.  For me this was the toughest part.  I failed a few times here.  Its tough to carry on when you have no energy.  You must push through this.  It passes just like the acute withdrawal symptoms.  It takes a month or two to get to a point of near normalcy.  There's ups and downs but each week is clearly better than the week before.  This is where the true freedom is.   Three months and most everyone is going to have some semblence of normal.

Hang in there.  You must know by now, reading the posts of people who have completed the journey, that its totally worth it.  As Briancsu points out, its wonderful figuring out what to do with all that extra money.  :-))
