Fentanyl

I have been on a fentanyl patch for about 8 years for Ankylosing Spondylitis and Fibromyalgia. The doctor who prescribed them is no longer able to prescribe them as his board of directors for his practice has decided that they can no longer do pain management. I have tried unsuccessfully to find another doctor in my area. The doctors want to do nerve blocks/etc. so no one will take me until I come off the fentanyl. The patches work well for the pain but since its no longer an option I need to come off the meds myself. How can I do this with the least side effects?

Thanks so much. It helps to know I'm not the only one who has had to do this.

Depending on your dosage, fentanyl wd's is extremely hard. If you can taper that is the best.  Most opuate wd may not belief threatening but Fentynal is different. Especially if you have a high dose.  My husbands doctor took him down from 125mcg every 2 days to 25 MCG then refused to have him do the rest at home. He went inpatient for a week to get through the worst

So be careful.  You will in rough shape gorse real weeks. But you can do it.

Doctors are such idiots.  They make snap decisions about your health without looking at the big picture.

Fentanyl patches contain opiates and deliver a steady stream into your system.  It will not be easy, but withdrawals from opiates is usually not life threatening, just miserable.  Read as many stories on here as you can, and ASK (strongly) your doctor for help in getting off the patches.

Good luck honey.   It's tough for the first 10 days, but then it gets much much better.   Let us know how you are doing...

Hi there..I'm very sorry you have to deal with coming off without great guidence from your DR..

I will say that I have had one relapse and my very first detox was on Fentanyl patches..

I was on 3 100mg patches and oxys or Dilaudid for "break through pain"..I lost my insurance and was left with nothing to take instantly..it was a hard thing to do,but I did make it just fine through my CT detox..

I had to have surgery again and stupidly took Opanas and had to detox yet again and thankfully was able to taper down a few days and this was a bit less hard..so maybe you can that first and see..though I know for me it's easier to just jump ship and get it over faster..

I totally can relate as I suffer from spondylolisthesis due to a ballet overstress fracture and then car accident/seat belt doing more damage..I no longer take any pain meds and I'm still managing, but it can be a bit of a struggle..hopefully you can get off and get the nerve block sooner than later

I was on Fentanly I will not lie to you, I did it myself and it wasn't easy.  Why isn't he offering help for you to get off of it?  If I were you, I would ask
