I'm just seeing this. How did you end up doing?
Hope all is well. Have you been to sub Dr.? What are they charging you for a visit. Some of theese sub, Dr's think people who want sub detox are high income clients. I have heard charges for people w/out insurance are $200.00 as high as $2000.00..I think the higher come w/the suboxone. Let me know what they charge you just curious.
Jay, you need rx insurance. I think there may be a solution for you. because you may need other meds in the future, like an antibiotic which can run over 100.00. and then there is your valium which you can get for a $15.00 copay. its the same on all drugs. The program is called PPA you can find it on the internet. Type PPA.com and look for Montell Williams name. I checked it out with your income you qualify. You do the appliication on line. You can look at their drug formulary I was surprised at how many drugs they cover, everything but no suboxone but at least you will have rx coverage in case you become ill, or want to try an anti-depressant. Like lexapro for (GAD) generalized anxiety disorder, it can be taken in your addition to your valium. You should apply asap as I know you'll qualify. Check it out . Take care --- Noah
Hi, I am still here, I am waiting for FLaddict to resend me her Sub regime as I had copied it and put it in a folder when I moved and now I cant seem to find it. I want to try and stick with a plan that someone has tried and it worked. Thanks Noah for the concern. I cant get into the DR. until next week and I know FLaddict is busy. IM not putting anything off, just have to wait until next week to go to the DR, Jay Dean
Where are you, we all hope everything is ok. If not WE still are here to support you for whatever your going through!!!!!!!
Noah
i agree with savas. You will be traiding one for the other. This process is horrible but if you want out just do it. When you make the plunge DO NOT have anything important planned it will affect your entire life & relationships. Also be honest with your family and friends.
You do have to remember this: These are ALL opiates. So you're substituting one opiate for another. Which...doesn't really work well. At all. Unless you're using something you AREN'T addicted to, you'll just end up with cold turkey withdrawal in the long run.
You get what you pay for! Methadone is horrible,it is actually more addictive than what you are taking. You will just be getting a bandaid if you go that route. My son started Sub today w/a norcal shot after w/d for 6 days. He had been on oxy, tried to get off with methadone, didnt work. actually made it worse as he started using heroin as well. 6 days of hell and the methdone stays in the body the longest. He actually looked great after 5 minutes of day one of sub. He actually smiled and said he felt better, the smile was sincere,I havent seen it in a long time. If you can afford the suboxone,go for it. Just know you have to be in active w/d for it to be effective.24-48 hrs If not your w/d will be worse as the sub will rip the opiates from your nuerotransmitters in the process of replacing it w/the sub.
Umm... well...I'd stay away from the methadone. IF your opiate history is just pills, and only a year or two, and you've never taken methadone before...you could do a a four day detox with it. But you will still feel like **** when you come off it. I suppose if you try it this once, and it doesn't work, then you can always do suboxone.
But methadone is a nasty drug. I'd stay away from it. There's no guarantee it'll work/you'll react well. And remember, methadone takes 2-3 weeks to get fully into your system, so you will probably be getting only 14-18 hours per dose if you do it this way. You'd want to split it, like 10 morning and 10 night.
But it would be better to do the suboxone on a short term (2 week) detox.
Hey its Noah. Just a few questions you are now in Florida right? If so what county? Your working thats a good thing. Is it physical labor?. The doc you see now, how do you pay him? Do you have insurance or are you private pay, Jay if he is giving you all these percs, (do the math) then what does he expect. He is partially to blame and should offer to ween you down. Please dont tell me you have more than 1 doctor (doctor shopping) as its a felony down here in the bible belt. Up in CT were we are both from (farmington) the same charge is a misdemeanor. In fact many things down here are felonies as compared to New England which is a much more liberal area. Any way how are you able to pay for your percocet? If it were me I would have to wheel and deal, I'd have to survive. Sometimes we do what we have to do to survive. But I would'nt advise it as that too is a felony.
As far as the doses people cliaming to have used or are using isn't always exactly accurate in my opinion. People claim this kind of drug use especially when trying to get on a methadone clinic. Because the higher your opiate intake the larger you dose will be. These clinics dont do bleed work to get true levels, they rely on the pee in the cup method. Then they stick it as you must test possitive for opiates. If you test possitive for benzos (valium) as in your situation they have the right to turn you down for treatment. The same goes with the suboxone program especially. and the dam things stay in you system for so long 30 - 45 days is one rumor, but it has to have something to do with the amount you are taking.
Jay your making 1200.00 per month. Do you have any deductions? As they do effect you application. Also a rent receipt for even a room you are presently staying in, If they are friends of yours maybe they could help you out with that receipt. They have noting to lose. But this is what you do as all partial medical assistance applications are processed on line her is the web address www.myflorida.com/accessflorida. I hope you have a Florida license or DMV state ID, and a ss card. When you log on and set up your account. the systems will ask you what you are applying for click on food stamps, click on medicaid. when your done make sure you print the page with the access# the system will generate it for you, If approved for food stamps it wont be much 10.00 per month. but its better than nothing I guess. a jar of peanut butter, gallon of milk and loaf of bread. That keeps some people going for a week. well good luck home boy, let me know how it turns out, I'm going to a neighbors cookout at 5:00. They have no idea I'm an addict/alcohlic. Even when I did drink five years ago beer was not my thing, I'M just going to make a quick, Hi how are you and leave. Here let me practice, Hi Jay how are ya doing. thats great I'll catch up with ya latter , Noah
i wouldn't take the methadone...go to a doctor explain your addiction...take anything but meth..i've heard a lot of bad things about meth...very hard to detox from meth if you become addicted to it.....good luvk dee
Nadia, Noah and Desss. Thank you so much for your input. First off I live by myself. No Wife or children. I manage a ranch, in Broward County, I make 300 dollars a week, not a lot for a 48 year old man, but the job comes with free housing. Noah, I was born in New London Ct. I have never taken methadone, and just thought that if this person was to offer me a 40 milligram wafer, that it might get me through withdrawls. I really cant go cold turkey as I just started this job. But I need a plan or rather I have a plan and desire to get off of the pain medication. I have been taking Valium for about 3 years for anxiety. 10 milligrams a day. As prescribed. Im pretty sure by reading the posts on here my 60 to 80 milligram percocet use is in the moderate range, would I be correct to assume that. I was amazed at some of the others who were on 6,7 even 8 hundred milligrams a day of pain meds. I pray for them as I do my self. I give many thanks to your responses, as others should too. Kind people are few and far between nowadays. Noah. let me know what you think if Im making 300 dollars a week if I would qualify for any assistance, I have never had assistance of any kind before, so it is something new to me, but until i get going a little better, Im not ashamed to accept it temporarily. Jay Dean
If it works for you then do it. None of us can tell you differently. Some people can do it cold turkey, some people can't.
Jay Dean , have you been on methadone before? If you have no experience with this drug please say away from it, You said you just came to florida. Are you working over the table, or under the table the reason I ask is you may qualify for assistance and i dont mean medicaid. unless you get an ssi check, If you get an ssdi check you are in like flynn. This would auomatically pay for you suboxone under part d of the medicare program. If you are living in the tampa area and have no means of income that is on paper, You can qualify for Hillsborough county health care. But you need to be there at 7am as they only take the first 15 people in line. If you do get an appointment and meet with a caseworker, Tell them you need mental health assistance as well as out patiet detox, they are located on the corner of 22nd ave and 26th ave, The # 12 bus will take you there, There is also a food stamp office right behind the lee davis center, If i knew you circumstances i know i could be of more help. If you are working legitamely and you have insurance get a sub doctor that takes you plan. If your plan doesnt cover your dr or the drugs you can write numerous letters, to get them to reconsider, Many times the ins co deny claims hoping you'll just give up and go away, Most of the counties in Florida have a supplemental plan to medicaid and medicare, State assistance is out there even for males, you just have to know your way around the system to get anywhere. Let me know the county you line in, And you current situation as in wife, dependants, employment status. I will do what ever I can to direct you to the correct state offices to apply for benefits, Thats #1 and we can aslo see if all else fails if a doctor will treat you on a sliding scale, Even if you are working you may still qualify for a medicaid cost share, Which involves a little more paperwork on your part but after you have faxed you medical bills in pharmacy included. they will look at them and see if they meet your cost share, if they do find a sweet bay pharmacy. You will go there after the state has approved your cost shares, But what ever you do leave that methadone biscut alone, There is no way you can detox with 40 mg of methadone. You will probally end up on maintenance which is so hard to get you life back once you've given it to the Devil , And it only works on the cravings for a short time. Before you know it you be on 40mg a day and then the sky is the limit just ask your friend on 400mg an obscene amount of methadone. Remember this 1 mg of suboxoe is equal to 50 mg of morphine. If your interested and think you may need some help post it. We are shameless!
noah
i wouldn't touch the methadone. I was on it for six month at one point. I took it so I wouldn't go through the wd of going ct.. BIGGEST mistake of my life. Methadone is HELL.. Pill w/d's are cake compared to methadone. Only have a 40mg wafer will not get you to far. If you took a quarter a day you wouldn't be very uncomfortable with w/d but about a day or two after your last dose you would be sick. IMHO I would just go c/t. Go to your doc ask for clonidine and maybe some xanax or something and go that way. If that doesn't work you can ALWays go back and try the sub.. At least give yourself a fair chance. Trying the clonidine route first, you can always fall back on the sub. However going the sub route first it will be the same **** when your done with it..
This is just my opinion I'm sure there will be many more to follow then you can weigh your options and go from there.
Good luck
des
Justlike you, I appreciate your input,, I just moved to Florida, so i have no real friends or family here. Its me and me alone. But Im ready to take on the battle. GaGuy,I will consider everything you said and compile everything together. I do also appreciate your response. And have seen both of you giving good advice to people over time. Thank you. Jay Dean
Jay, I've never taken methadone or suboxone...but, I will tell you..from what I've read and witnessed on this board..I wouldn't touch methadone with a 50 foot pole, even for a short period of time. Go to the doctor, get on sub if that's what you think will help you the best, get the support the doctor supplies, and kick the habit. Self medicating with methadone sounds like a bad idea all around. Just my 2 cents worth :)
id reccomend you work with someone who loves you, put all your cards on the table and quit cold turkey.
but have the methadone wafer there as an emergency only. dont begin with the intention of taking it, begin with the intention of living without drugs, but if you get really bad then your friend who is holding the methadone for you can give you a quarter wafer.
you will be very uncofortable for a while,
but if you try to use methadone to alleive the discomfort, you might find yourself in a deeper pile of chit that is much harder to climb out of.
