Getting of Oxycodone

Hello there I am new to this forum.  I am from Australia so I hope the names of the drugs aren't too confusing....  Here I go:

About ten months ago I had a car accident and got bursitis in my shoulder.  I was prescribed Targin (which is basically Oxycontin with naloxone in it - helps with the constipation) and Endone (immediate release oxycodone).  In summary, the pain got worse and worse, I kept having my dose of Targin upped to 40mg twice a day plus I was taking probably 20 - 30mg of Endone on top of that for break-through pain.

I eventually had an operation on my shoulder - Subacromial decompression - and stayed on the drugs for a while after that due to the pain of the surgery (VERY painful!).  I had a really hard time coming off the meds and it took MONTHS for me get off it.  I was / am pretty much addicted to it.  I finally stopped taking it because I was so sick of taking it.  I cut down by 5mg a day to nothing and took some diazepam to help with the withdrawals, but I find that makes me quite depressed.

So I was off the oxy for about two weeks and my shoulder started getting sore after I thought I could go back to normal exercise, swimming etc.  I work in a hospital, and one of the docs there gave me a script for oxy.  I gobbled them up quite quickly, then I got another one from another doc at work.  I've finished those too.  Then I got half a script (ie. 10 tabs) from one of the OTHER docs.  That was about three or four days ago now.

My regular doctor knows that I have a problem with the oxy and had been doctor shopping in the past.

I am in such a state because I feel awful cravings for the oxy, my shoulder is getting really sore despite taking Lyrica (pregabalin).

I'm seeing my GP today and I guess what I really want is to go back onto the Targin again and SLOWLY come off it PROPERLY this time, but I'm really scared she's not going to help me because I've been seeing other docs at work for scripts.

Anyway that's my sad story.  I'm keen to hear if anyone can offer some advice / words of wisdom for me.  It even helps just getting this out on the screen....

I had a very bad shoulder injury as well and it has never healed and I am in constant pain - but my orthopedist began giving me cortesone shots every 3 months and it really helps. He will not do it more often and I do not need it more often. You might ask about that. It is only because of the injections that I can move my arm from my shoulder at all or lift anything, now. MIne is all soft tissue injuries but drugs (Methadone and Vicodin in high doses in the US didn't tough the immense level of shoulder pain I have 247. The shots kill it and allow me to function and exercise.

Hello and welcome. Oxycodone is my drug of choice, for my "pain" issues-I really do have a messed up back that 3-level fusions have been suggested for-and for my addict side. I am quite unable to stop taking them, and more and more of them.
With the help of this forum and a true desire to be clean, I have been totally free from oxycodone for 10 months or so now, I am so busy with real life, I forget about my addict side for whole days now (never letting down my guard though)
One thing you may not believe is that opiates attenuate pain. They make our brains much more receptive to pain. Others here will verify this. When I was on Oxy for 2-3 years, when my precious pill wore off, man I hurt, I hurt really bad.
Now I take ibuprofen once maybe twice a day now. My pain levels are much less. My back is still messed up, but I do physical therapy, etc.
Additionally, with the Oxy beast not in control of my mind, chemically and spiritually, my thinking is much, much clearer. I have issues for sure, but we all got issues, goes with being human. I am much better able to tackle them head on, when I am not in the bottom of an empty pill bottle looking up.
Think about it:  no more doctor shopping needed, waiting at the pharmacy for that precious bottle of demon pills.
I am trying to convince you that this freedom is there for you too!
