suboxone withdrawal vs. methadone withrawal

I think I already know the answer to this question but I thought id ask anyway.  From what you have heard or experienced, whats worse withdrawing from Suboxone  or Methadone?  I dropped off my 70mg Methadone dose 23 days ago and it's been pure hell.  Whats Suboxone like coming off? Is it as horrible as Methadone withdrawal?

Subbys way easier to come off. Just get to a low dose like 15 ml methadone daily then switch to subbys. Your prescriber should be able to advise you on switching over. Im on 40ml methadone and am gonna go down 5ml every 2 weeks nice n slow until I'm down to 15ml then gonna switch to subs and reduce them slowly and just stop and stay stopped. Have to have some determination in my opinion. If done in a controlled manner it won't be too bad. Mayb a bit achy n sneezy for a week or two but nothing compared to coming off methadone. I was on methadone for almost 2 years at 95 mg. I started my taper and was in withdrawals for 7 months just by tapering. When I got down to 10 mg of methadone, I couldn't take it anymore so I went back up to 30 mg. I switched over to suboxone, stayed on it for three months to make sure the methadone was out of my system and then I tapered off of suboxone. I think because I was on suboxone for a short time the withdrawals were very doable for me: hot, cold, restless legs and constantly wanting to stretch.

Get in touch with some aftercare. WE all need some type of pathway of recovery. Whether its meetings, counseling, church or whatever it is do something for your recovery.

Everyday we are either working towards our recovery or working towards a relapse.

Reading all these methadone withdraw stories still confuses me, and not for the reason you might think.. I've been told by counselors, program directors substance abuse workers that my ability to overcome W/D's is inhuman. I was a heroin addict for over 11 years(IV user)and I went on methadone when the clinic finally agreed to let me join(I believe I was 21&some change) got up to 120 MGS really fast then being a stubborn, and know it all little **** I said F**k this, I'm not coming here everyday. I jumped from  120 no detox, wasn't using black (heroin)or anything for the matter. I felt sluggish and a little tired for 2 maybe 3 days. Then never felt any form of W/D after that, and it wasn't any kind of freak/one-time occurrence. Because I've been on methadone couple times, before this time and same song,Same dance get up to a high or medium level Dose then get tired of going there, dealing with counselors​ so i walk out, feel a little ****** for a day Shrug It Off Next day good as new.
Can an immunity of some sort even be a possibility?

I was on methadone for 14 years and I finally SD enough is enough I was at 120 and quit cold turkey and went into detox it was the worst withdrawels I have ever had....I thought I was dying. But I made it im on suboxone now and it is much better than methadone.  I see ppl still on methadone and it reminds me of how stupid I use to act. Nodding out all the time wrecking my car BC I couldn't stay awake going in restaurants falling asleep in my food. I think they should burn those places Down. You don't know what u are doing don't take it it will adverbially kill u. Im currently taking 2 subs a day and feel the best i have in years. I can actually parent my kids go out without falling asleep in my food and hold a full time job. The withdrawels from methadone were absolute hell please please read up on it. If u are an addict and need help suboxone is the key....methadone is the devil

I say that to people all the time. Methadone IS the Devil. In 2012 I was detoxed down to 10mg of 'done then went inpatient and I really thought I was going to die in there. Taking a shower sounded like an airplane jet and the shower stream felt like getting pelted with nails, I didn't sleep for 12 days straight. Then finally the symptoms began to subside and I was semi-functional after 3 months. And then like an idiot I went home and shot dilaudids and ended up on Suboxone. That was in 2012-2013. In 3 days I'm going to rehab to detox off 2mg, cliff dive. Please say a prayer for me I don't think I have another methadone-like withdrawal in me. METHADONE IS THE DEVIL. I am really hoping Sub is just a minor demon.

I was on methadone for 3 months, 30 mg max.. Tapered to 1/4 10 mg pill..took 3 to 4 days & felt tired & sore...passed a a drug test took 4 days of blues then subutex for 2 weeks...hoping to get past methadone w/d...tapered 1 8mg subutex for 5 days ending w/ 1mg for 2 days...today is day 1 w/o it..luckily i got suboxone & muscle relax..wish me luck...gtity

Stupid. But, I quit cold turkey from 90MG of Methadone. I was just done with it having a grip on me. Like everyone says; it's the worse thing you could ever go through. I lasted about a month & couldn't take it any longer. I started seeing a doctor for Suboxone. Took my withdrawl away in an instant it felt like. It was amazing. If you go to Subs. Start at a low dose(I only wanted 2MG) dose & wing yourself off. Because it's just another thing that will keep you reeled in. Good luck. I think that's a very smart move.

I can tell you that I was in a methadone program for over 4 years and they pulled the carpet out from underneath me they lowered my dosage from 185 milligrams to drop me every 4 days by 10 milligrams I didn't feel nothing at first and buy 2 weeks I was on the floor begging God to take my life when I finally realize what I have done to myself and what the drug had done to me I couldnt believe I let myself go that far I am now out of that damn Clinic thank God I hope it burns to the ground because people that do not understand what methadone is they have no business messing with it to me itthe next best thing to being on crack or heroin I think you would have an easier come off then the methadone and the clinics are useless they try to shove 12 steps down your throat and your higher than a kite I just felt like aftafter I've  been off of it now for two and a half months my body is still rigged with pain everyday all I keep thinking about is the new people that they keep accepting N 2 that clinic and how naive they are to go in there they dont understand. What Hell they R goin 2 B doing to their self Suboxone is nothing to come off of its not even a narcotic matter fact I heard it wasnt even proven to even be effective some may disagree with me but if you want the full monty there it is. All the money I wasted for those four and a half years I could have bought me a car a nice down payment on a house there's just so many other options you can take but I am older than a lot of the people that go there and that's the problem because with age comes wisdom and a lot of them are very young that are in these clinics and they don't care at the time sorry to be so blunt but I hate methadone and I hate what its done to my body Im still dealing with this pain and suffering and cant even pull my head out of my butt half the time I dont know if Im coming or going I feel like its messing with my brain due to the lack of sleep now the only good thing is Im not sweating and hot like I used to be now Im just cold and freezing and my bones ache all the time no one knows what this feels like until they go through it and I pray to God no one ever has to suffer the way I have hope this helps Ive never spoken out to anyone before about this so for me to be saying this is very big for meto B sayin this is a Big step 4 me cause I'm a very private person.. hopefully someone will read my words of wisdom please stay away from Methadone that all possible it might just save your life more than you ever know

8 mg of Methadone??  what are you worried about???  I was on 180 mg of Methadone for 13 years!!  I recently went to a Detox Center in Tampa Fla. I live in Hershey PA.  Let me tell you what I had that much Methadone stored in my bone marrow, bones, muscles, blood, etc...  I thought I was going to DIE, I did not sleep for 27 days STRAIGHT!!  SEVERE ANXIETY, HOT & COLD SWEATS, DEPRESSION, Everything Possible!!  I tried to get on like Xanax & Klonopin and even those Narcotics were not helping me, It seemed like nothing was going to work..  Then I got on Suboxone and I am so happy that I did, I am even able to go like 2 days without taking my Subs and I feel absolutely fine, If I would have tried going 2 days without going to my Methadone Clinic, FORGET ABOUT IT!!  So my advice to you is to try the Subs, if you do not like the way you feel, STOP!!  Plus only being on 8mg of Methadone you should be fine, Like I said I was on 180 mg for 13 years and I did it!!

I have gotten off suboxone after 5 years use.  I first tried got into full withdrawal and said screw this.. went back on another year and was all scared to ever quit.  Then I got smart about it and said why would anyone be so stupid to cold turkey either methadone (worse) or suboxone.  This is probably going to get removed because of my recommendation... but... you need to step down the narcotic ladder.  I stopped getting suboxone.  got some Percocet.. Took that for about a week. Felt kinda crappy but could sleep and go to work.  Then stepped down to codeine for about a week.  Still felt kinda crappy but very bearable at this point.. Really your just kinda like this ***** but you can do whatever you want short of playing sports.. Can just kick it and watch TV and not be all depressed.. Then.. I discovered the best drug to step down from there.. Lomotil.  which is rx also.. if you cant get ahold of it people use OTC anti diharea (sp??, whatever).. Then its just doing that for another week maybe two.. Then stopped taking that.  Then just read up on what people do to get there happy going again and you'll be ok.  You don't have to go through BAD pain at all!! You do not, I promise..  Its very doable.  But doing it cold turkey is just retarded and tough.. I don't think I would of made it through cold turkey (stopped at 4mg).. that just isn't worth it.. do what I said.. you will have success!!

I did 90mg cold turkey took me 3 months of hell while working .Methadone has to be the WORST withdrawal on Earth.

I was on methadone for ten years for really bad back  pain. I decided that I did not want the chains of dependency keeping me from living a normal  life anymore..  I lost all sense of love,sadness,labido, and life in general because of of the severity of knowing how INTENSE the withdrawal would  be if I attempted to even try to come off of methadone..  The anxiety alone knowing they( w/ds) were on there way made me almost feel institutionalized. Methadone detox is way way way way worse than Suboxone... I only take2 to 4 mgs a day of Suboxone.  I went and decided I would see how I feel and try to stop the Suboxone. It is 30 to 50% of what methadone detox is. Dont get me wrong...it ***** too. But, I kept in mind that it could be much much worse if I was coming off the methadone again. U will get anxiety. I found out  that if u can get anxiety under control its really not NO WHERE NEAR METHADONE. PLEASE to all out there with this concern that either way there really is no easy way out of going through any of it.  I suggest once through most of methadone detox, try subutex or suboxone in the doses to get through the heavy side effects and slowly wean. It works.. And you wont have to suffer. One thing.. I still had mad sweats and felt uncomfortable for about 24 to 36 hrs in to my suboxone treatment just after a few days of not taking methadone..Like I said , you dont have to suffer like I felt I was.  I DID NOT THINK I could do it,but I did..And all of u can too......sleezye32:()---.....

I'll agree with Genix...methadone w/ds are very very difficult. I am just one of the lucky ones to have been able to do it. i was very naive when i did that. But glad none the less.

METHADONE is the hardest drug to come off of known to man, you wanna be ******* hard to get of done, it make heroiin look like candy, so does suboxone. if you want to be ****** up for months cold turkey methadone, of course if youu were only on done for lke 5 weeks that would be alright, but once your dependant, your screwed , not alot of people make it off of done, dont get me wrong it can be done, ive done it and it near ******* killed me, rips your soul your spirituality mentally and physically that drug is the MOTHER of all opiates. by the way im on day 22 cold turkey and i feel like ******* dying lol i cant even do three  pushups. But again if you took it for a coupleo of WEEKS u  wuold get through it fine. GO suboxone go heroin go ******* anything except methadone unless you plan on staying on it.

It was by far the worst pain I ever suffered. Harder than childbirth. But SO glad I don't have to go to that ******* clinic anymore. I wouldn't touch methadone again if you paid me. Well maybe if it was a lot of money but the withdrawals were like nothing I ever felt. All I remember is 3 months of pain, no sleep and my blood pressure skyrocketing to 219/130. **** methadone and the Nazi who invented it.

I hear ya...methadone is wicked to do come off of..it really doesn't make a huge difference how..it's all tough..but to even have someone describe w/ds from suboxone...they sound like methadone w/ds..so whats the point?? This is just my opinion..having done it.

I've been tapering down off of long term suboxone, and it's been awful!  If you were to go on suboxone for a quick taper - 20 -30 days max, it may help with the methadone detox and prevent you from becoming physically dependent on the sub.

I am on 8mg of methadone I have an appointment in two weeks for suboxone is this a bad move? I'm looking to ease the withdrawal from methadone but don't want to just get on another drug that I have to worry about the withdrawals on. Any advice is appreciated.

I haven't taken suboxone..but I did go cold turkey off methadone..from what I have heard it can be almost as bad as methadone..and that was worse than bad.
