Going off trazadone

Hello
I have been on trazadone for sleep for 15 years. My doctor is having me go off it and take neurontin instead. I have fibermygalia neuropathy 2 fractures  in back. He wants me to take 100 mg neurontin and 100 mg trazadone for three nights. I am doing it slower.  Is it normal to feel funny sweaty and shaky during the day?  I am having a hard time functioning.

Thank you for your replies. I am feeling a lot better and happy to be finally off trazodone. Once again thank you and if I have more questions I will be sure to ask.

Welcome to the forum!  The symptoms you are describing are VERY typical when going off Trazodone.... particularly after being on it for 15 yrs.  If you want to read more, you can "bing" or "google" w/drawing from trazodone.

With the 3 medical issues you have going on, I can see why your dr would want to try neurotin (gabapentin is the generic name).  It may well help with your fibro, your neuropathy, any nerve pain in your back and a side benefit CAN be sleep, too (at least when you first go on gabapentin).  They usually have you take your first dose at night because it can make you sleepy.  Then they GRADUALLY increase your dose throughout the day as having even blood plasma levels of this medication helps immensely.
I didn't have any trouble going ON gabapentin.....or getting OFF of it because I tapered it as instructed.  It definitely CAN help with nerve pain issues.  Your doctor may be attempting to help you in ALL areas by using just one medication.  (rebound insomnia is quite common when coming off trazodone which the gabapentin may help relieve)
If you want to take this crossover process more slowly, I'll bet your dr. would agree to that.   Hope this helps....wishing you well~

Dear Shackado, so do you think you feel this way because of a decrease in the sleeping medication ?
In my personal experience, about 15 years ago,I was on Neurontin ( GABA ) for 4 years. It was prescribed to me for pain along with an opioid.  It worked nicely.    I am unaware of Neurontin being prescribed for sleep.
There is one caution: although every person is different, I found this medication extremely difficult to withdrawal from, even tapering.  If you have concerns speak with your Dr.   Pamela
