Head Aches & Ear Ringing...29 days clean... Driving me nuts..PLS HELP

Hello Everyone!
I have made it 29 days clean from percocet addiction.  I am going nuts and need help bad.  My headhurts at some point every day.  Not all day...just a certain parts.  No rhyme or reason to them.  The ear ringing  is only noticeable at bedtime or first thing when I wake up.  I suffer from High BP...have my entire adult life.  It is well controled and I have checked it numerous times when I have these symtoms and it is always a good low reading.  My concerned is the new meds the detox hospital sent me home on.  I have PTSD and they said I needed anxiety meds so they gave me Vistaril.  Secondly they took me off my ambien and replaced it Traxadone so I no longer have any addictive meds.  Have any of these meds caused these reactions to you all before?  I feel better everyday except these don't seem to improve much. I recently had complete bloodwork and all was good.  Any help or expierence would be great appreciated.  All of your support has really made the diffence....Thank You!!!

I'll keep trying the headphones at night and when the ringing is at it's worst. I'm hoping it'll start to subside soon. Really draining my life away...

Thanks clean_in_ks,

I probably read the same article you did for the holistic approach. I'm trying acupuncture, massages, exercise, some supplements. Trying not to use the xanax but somehow need to cope with this ringing. I'm hoping it subsides with time or maybe my body will adapt to it.

I am trying apps like the rainstorms, etc with headphones. Seems to distract me a bit.

Does it get better with time? Doctors aren't helping, just saying I'll have to learn to live with it. Hard to believe anyone can live with this kind of ringing non-stop. I dread going home at night and weekends--too quiet-only so much exercise I can manage.

I am determined to stay off the opiates though. Not sure if that contributed to the problem, but just want to be sober and be able to cope. Thanks again for reaching out, really helps me!

I did want to make one suggestion that helped me a lot.  My worst ringing time was at bed.  So music was the best but you have to have head phones or any kind.  I learned to fall asleep with them on and seems to be a lot easier to sleep and cope with the ringing.

I had a lot of ear problems while taking opiates, antidepressants and somas....I also took gabapentin....I am almost 17 months off ALL prescription medications and my ears are FINALLY better.
I had severe swimmer's ear infections as a child...and whenever my immune system is not at it's best....I have temporary flare ups with my ears...but they are much better now.

While I was detoxing off 8 different prescription meds these past months....I had LOTS of issues with my ears.  I even heard music that wasn't really on (in the initial months getting off opiates) it was CRAZY!!!  LOL....but I also had seratonin syndrome that I think contributed to that.

If you are really desperate, I read an article on the internet written by a person who has researched tinnitus for a LONG time..tried drugs and surgery...and finally came up with a holistic approach and says he/she(?) is cured.  There are lots of other testimonies from other tinnitus sufferers on that web site....but of course, when you are selling something....you have to read with a lot of discretion.  Just thought you might want to at least have a looksie....time off opiates will help A LOT of course.  And the benzo is another nightmare to get off of, so beware. (it's probably just masking it)  One week off a 7 year oxy habit isn't very long to apprise how much your ears will heal though.  Hope that helps ya some~

hi suffering, I have been reading ur thread.  I took a gigantic amount of opiates (pills) and benzos for 14 years.  I have what im almost certain is tinnitus.  it seems a lot worse in my right ear and sometimes I notice it in the left.  when I first got off the pills it seemed really bad.  I think it has gotten a LOT better, or at least I don't notice it as much.  for me it seems worse when I am really stressed and / or sick.  I also get migraines and it seems worse then.  I sometimes deal with borderline high bp but I take Inderal for that, still it's in the mix.  have you read much about tinnitus?  I know it affects a lot of musicians and for me I have had to just come to terms with the fact that it is not going to go away.  but it does seem better when im able to take the focus off it and also when im not as stressed in general or when I can actively lower my stress.  good luck, feel free to pm me.

I've just come off of 7 years of pain pill use, oxycodone, for a fractured back among other issues. I've been a week clean now, but find myself using xanax to cope with the severe ringing in the ears I've been having since starting the weaning off process from the pain meds.

I also take Levothyroxine for hypothyroidism and read where the thyroid could also be responsible for tinnitus--or the thyroid meds themselves--they have me at 125mcg a day. What is interesting to me is the doctor's never mentioned one word about the possibilities of tinnitus from the thyroid or the meds--or the pain meds.

The tinnitus to me is life threatening at this point. I've had mri's, ct.'s, blood work, I've been examined inside out and the best the doctors can tell me is to live with it, "just background noise". They are so off it's amazing. Disrupts my entire life, I'm a single dad with two teens, a great job, a lot to live for, but I cannot see myself living with this condition.

Don't mean to unload on you--I'm looking for hope--I've been on xanax for 65 days now and don't want to get addicted to that. Not sure how to cope or if this will ever go away. And, thanks for your reply. I would take a reduction in tinnitus, anything to salvage my life.

It's good to hear you are doing so well!

To be honest. No. It definitely improved a great deal.  I am now 2 years clean and the ringing is only occasionally.  Best of luck...

Actually tinnitus (the ear ringing) is a symptom caused by a lot of opiates and benzos.  I developed tinnitus when taking the pills and it's still with me.  Not as annoying as it used to be, but it hasn't stopped.

I am sorry you are suffering.  I myself suffered from terrible migraine headache every day I was tapering.  It's been gone since I went ct 5 days ago.  It could be what's called a rebound headache from the withdrawals still.  I am getting the ear ringing thing big time and I have low BP.  I think it just takes awhile for your body and brain to heal.  Check with your doc to make sure though.  Hang in there-I hope you get some relief soon.
