Headaches - Cause?

I can't decide if I'm getting headaches lately because of the taper or it's just a seasonal thing. How much aspirin is to much? I'm trying to keep it to no more than twice a day (two 200 ml tablets, per label instruction!). But have taken three times that (don't like doing this, feels like an "Addict reaction"; if it's not working, should just accept it. "More isn't always better." and some things can't be cured.

Is anyone out there suffering headaches from seasonal change? Or are taper- related headaches common?  This is a wake up with a pounding headache, recurs later in the day on and off. Hasn't reached migraine yet. Well, once or twice (You know, the type of migraine where it hurts to much to lay still, hurts to much to move, so you just kind of walk in really slow circles trying not to whimper with all the lights out and a cold cloth on your forehead? Fun stuff!!! :(

Also: Doctor gave my wife Singular, had a strange reaction (cured allergy, aggravated her asthma). Never had this happen when she took it off methadone. Anyone heard of this???

Umm you had mentioned in one of your posts to someone~ About "How methadone leaves the
body as you taper off", you said something about methadone has a short "half life"? and therefore
needs replenishing quicker?? I forgot your exact words sorry. I wondered what a
"half life" is?
I was also wondering how some of these folks say they're at 3 mgs and then 2mgs to 1mgs?
how do you get a 2 mgs dose? what form of methadone can you bring down to such a small
increments??
P.S I too am tapering off the "ever wonderful" methadone!

I'm tapering off the same thing, methadone. I'm on 5 milligrams right now, and WAS planning on coming off this month, but some issues came up that have made me push it back a month. Nothing really serious, just timing issues. When you finally come off, you have to be as sure as you can be that life won't turn around and bite you on the *ss.
You're going to hear that getting down as low as you are, especially under 20 milligrams, can be really hard. I'm going to tell you my secret that made it easy, I've been splitting my dose, morning and night. On my own, mind you, not clinic supported. When you're tapering, it seems the methadone doesn't last the full 24 hours, and you start to feel it when you get lower. Which is why I did this, and it worked for me.
The headaches are mostly gone now, and I'm wondering if it was seasonal and the taper just aggravated it (alot of people complaining the last few weeks!). I also cut down on caffeine (don't take in much to start) and maybe that helped to?

4ced2be - I'm not sure which "half life" theory you're referring to (maybe it's still to early, I'm not awake enough yet!) Could you elaborate? There's at least four references that jump to mind (drug-wise), Not sure which one it would be. Oh, and thanks, I try. :)

Now I do!  I am pretty experienced with methadone and other PM meds.I have been struggling with
many of them AND..I read up. BUT..I have no idea about the "half-life" theory. I have heard my
doctor refer to it, but never understood??

P.S you are a good to help to many! kudo's :)

Hello, what are you tapering from?  I'm tapering off of methadone.  I'm down to 37milligrams from110milligrams so over half way.  God willing I'll finish the taper with the help of me support group.  I find myself getting headaches that can come from no where and exceed being painful.  Also some seem to linger on a low dull knock inside my head.  Good luck with them.
take care, Robin

Funny, that's exactly what I was going by, on advice from my dentist of all people! Go figure. I was worried about doing it for more than a week straight. He'd told me to do that for tooth pain/dental work pain, so I wasn't sure if it applied as safe in this situation.
Fortunately, the headaches seem to have passed for now, but thanks for the confirmation anyway. My dentist is a funny but strange guy.
He won the "funniest dentist of the year" award (no joke!) some years ago and now it's like getting drilled while listening to a comedy routine when I go in. Can't decide if I like it or not...and can't always tell when he's serious.

I have had headaches through the taper and after I quit all the way.  Not all day long, but they are headaches like I have never had before (must be the withdrawals) Anyways, I work in the dental field and you can take 800mgs of Ibuprofen every 6 hours, that is the prescription dose and that is what we have our patients take for pain.  I take this dose all the time when I need it.  The only thing is all of our livers may not be in the best shape, so try and only take it when you really need it.  Good luck

Jeez, you see why I say you can't trust doctors!? She only had pnemonia one other time, pretty bad but not that bad (She was, they told me not to expect her to survive the night-but if she did, she should be okay. Nothing beats sitting in the I.C.U. waiting room all alone wondering if your going to be a widower in the morning. I can only imagine I dealt so calmly because it was all so unreal).

The other time was one of those "go figure" bad timing things. It was actually on 9/11, and I lost touch with her that morning. She traveled through the trade center at that time to work, and I didn't know she'd gotten halfway there and had an asthma attack brought on from bronchitis (a sickness I'm sure your familiar with, having an asthmatic son). They diagnosed her with the beginnings of pnemonia, and due to the 9/11 emergency, (which she wasn't at, ironically because of all this) she ended up in a New Jersey hospital. So I wa panicking, assuming she'd been caught in the tower crash. It was two days before I tracked her down, calling area hospitals, assuming there was no point since there were no survivors actually in hospital.

This was one of those "Lord works in mysterious ways" incidents that can shake up even an old agnostic like myself.

She's been using advair, which works great for her (besides the inhaler). I don't know if it's okay for kids, but I guess the singular made her need it. She never needed it before, and wasn't happy about using it. Your son will probably go through all the frustrations she's gone through all her life, and having to go on stronger medications are always depressing. I hope he's coping with it well.

She says "Hi!" - and enjoy this pre long weekend, full of traffic friday!

WOW!!!  she was really bad huh?   my boy started it when he was 3, in and out of the hospital for his asthma and pneumonia, about 3-5 times every damn winter...this year was his first year without being admitted!!! and he is 8.   so now i really wonder if it wouldnt have been like that if i took him  OFF the damn singulair..my thought was always : wow thank god for the singulair...i couldnt imagine how bad he would be without it....!!!   i bet  my way of thinking was wrong, and i should have thrown it to the traffic about 5 years ago....no french today....lol!   have a great day, and tell your wife i'm glad she is still here...

No, I wasn't aware of that. And she isn't taking it anymore. It was pretty terrifying at the time.  She was taken to the emergency room and when I got there they told me I should contact her family (California). When they told me I should have them fly in to "see her just in case", realized just how bad the situation was. Apparently pneumonia and asthma don't mix well. And since I'm one of those annoying people who doesn't get sick, I didn't know what was going on and lacked the sense to call for help sooner.
Makes me want to check if there's any singular left under the sink and toss it into traffic!

Le singular d'mal! Ce n'est pas sympatique! (or something like that! kinda rusty)

That's so strange! She'd tried it a year and a half ago and ended up in the hospital with pnemonia as well. I never thought the two could be connected. Hmmm...

I've tried that acupressure trick where you apply pressure to that area of your hand...it works great, but it always seems like the headache comes back with a double vengeance when I let go! Pull on my eyebrows? Hmm... I never thought of that. I'll have to try it. I've had two days without a headache so I'm hoping it's a phase that's over.

Astelin spray? Is that like nasonex? It's a steroidal base...which no matter how much they insist it's "not the same thing as steroids", still makes me a little nervous to use.
The rebound effect from the over the counter nose sprays when I tried them years ago was so awful I've been leery of using any nasal spray since. But I guess I'll have to inhale the bullet", so to speak.

Excedrin Tension headache works for me.. and an ice pack on my forehead or heating pad on my neck.. try massaging your eyebrows pull on em.. ect.. sometimes that is enough to release the tension and pressure.

everytime i taper down on the sub..i will have headaches for 4-5 days, advil works for me though...and as far as your wife goes...my 8 year old has asthma and seasonal allergies also, he takes singulair...i dont remember if it bothered his asthma at first,, but i do remember he was in and out of the hospital the first 2 years he was on it , singulair made it so it was easy for him to get pnemonia...he started it when he was 3 and hes still on it at 8...this past year is the first year he has not been hospitalized not once...but i think i remember reading something in side effect in the pamphlet you get from the pharmacy or i read it on line...i dont remember...i know i read it somewhere about asthma while taking singulair....i'll let you know if my brain remembers where it found it...

Sorry to hear you are having headaches.  I was prescribed asprin many, many years ago for my RA and was told I could take up to 1200mg a day and did. Side effect was ringing in my ears.  Have you been on any drugs that would supress serotonin up take?  If so, and you have been off them, when your brain starts to re-uptake or make serotonin again it can cause profound headaches like those you describe.

Your wife's reaction sounds like an allergic reaction to meds... I know it sounds crazy but one can have an alergy to certain alergy meds, my husband does. Have her try Astelin spray.

Hope you feel better soon.
