Congrats on your first step to getting your life back. It sounds like you're on the right track. If you think that tapering is the best option for you right now, then by all means. Everyone is different, and I was one of the ones who opted to just go CT with the pills all together. I didn't have the willpower to NOT take the pills regularly instead of just tapering. If there were pills around, they got swallowed with a glass of milk or water like my everyday routine used to be. I'm not over 70 days sober and happier than ever. You can do this...keep posting! Hey Maxwell...

I am also new to this site and we have something in common. I too have been taking 750mg vicodin for back pain. I have been taking it everyday for the last 7 years. I tried stopping around 3 years ago and it lasted a few months and then I started taking it again due to the pain etc.
I recently have gotten so fed up with taking these pills. I used to take on occasion 8 pills a day but for the most part I would take 3-4 pills everyday on a regular basis. As soon as I got up and then I would take some with me everywhere I went.
I have been off the pills for 4 days now. For me I tapered from 4 a day down to 3 a day for a one month period. I then went to 2 a day and found myself taking 3 again. It was hard to stick to the 2 a day. I always feel tired and taking the pills seems to give me a bump and help make me feel normal in addition to the back pain. I know that I am so tired of this cycle. I decided to try again to the 2 a day. I went one week at 2 a day and then I told myself I would stop last saturday and detox over the weekend. My daughter had a soccer game and of course I made the excuse to take it as soon as I woke up. Again...I have been taking for the last 7 years so it is easy to make excuses. I took my second one in the afternoon and I felt really anxious? I hate it when I feel this way. I never had anxiety issues prior to taking the pills but on occassion I will feel really off and anxious etc. It is horrible.. I found this site that evening and I decided no matter what I would not take anything on Sunday. I was so worried about how it would be I had 20 or so pills on hand. Many other people in this community told me not to do that but it made me feel in more control and less nervous. The first day I had flu like symptoms..fever,aches, runs, chills & very mild spasms in legs and arms. Very mild.. I had very strong cravings and still do but I am already feeling much better. You can do this when you are ready.. I thought it would be much worse then it really was.. I flushed all the remaining pills yesterday and I am well on my way to a new life that is pill free. In my case I was so sick and tired of the cycle and always feeling like ****.

Keep posting... You can do this...

Sounds like a good plan. I quit by taperring. Just take it slow. the slower the better. The more time you can put inbetween your doses the better. Dont taper until you body is use to the last taper. To many people try to taper to quickly and they just end up in this continous wd mode. Dont taper again if you still feel some withdrawals. If you go to my journal you can see what my taper schedule was. Once i was off altogether my physical withdrawals were very minimal. Sounds like you are on the rite track. Good luck and keep us posted. Also you can send me a message if you need any help.
