Help with Tramadol withdrawal

Help, Ive took Tramadol for about 4 months, last two months 3 x 50g, had my Gall bladder removed few weeks ago and feeling better, so decided to come of tramadol, Took last one few days ago, then had worst night sleep ever, horrible dreams and rushing, and palpetations in head, body. the weirdest feelings i have ever experienced in my life, and i'm 40!!. Today i feel so depressed and down, i just burst into tears for no reason...  and i'm aching all over, and same rushing feelings in head..
Has anybody been on similiar dose and if so, when will i begin to feel normal again. Should i go back to doctors.
Please Help.

thanks for reply, Since first being being on Tramadol I did take differenr doses to start, depending on the pain, and had simillar feelings to what i have now, but not as severe. having a suspicion it was the tramadol i took a low dose constant untill i felt i didnt need them, my father is on them too, slow release ones and told me that when he misses one he knows due to feeling depressed for no reason.
I will go to doctors if i feel i cant cope, but am determined not to take another tramadol, as i think it will just start a vicious circle. last night was a slightly better night, got a bit more sleep but still had 3 or 4 bad dreams inbetween. today is day 3 and woke up aching and feeling rubbish, but i'm hanging in there. found some advice on here very helpfull.
Its just the sleep that gets me down as i'v allways been a sound sleeper.
thanks again.

Hey Drangonboy

I am struggling with Tramadol myself, I was given it whilst in hospital with severe Endomitriosis just over a month ago, I was taking 400mg per day which I believe is the maximum dosage. I was discharged with 100 50mg tablets, so stayed on the maximum dose as no one told me otherwise.

When I was close to running out got a repeat prescription from my doctor who mumbled something about coming off them under medical supervision then he went on holiday for three weeks.

Then I started to think I can't tell if I'm in pain or not so reduced down to 200mg per day, still no pain, so now I am taking 100mg every morning (as struggling to start my day without them) and have been for the past 4 days.

Trouble is I  feel a bit stuck now as I did feel rough dropping so quickly but feel fairly ok now.  I know we are not supposed to talk about tapering plans, but seeing how I don't know what to do next I can't anyway.

I know I haven't given you any help, just wanted you to know that you are not alone struggling with this very effective but ridiculously addictive painkiller.

Take care and keep us posted on how you are : )

Hi & Welcome,

While you were on a relatively low dose, Tramadol is a drug that should be tapered - not cut off cold turkey. What you are experiencing is typical. You should most definitely speak with your prescribing physician and explain that you stopped the medication. Ask for help. He/she knows your medical background and we don't so that is your best bet. Please call and let us know how you are doing.
