High doses MScontin Start Suboxone tomorrow

I have been on opiates for 7yrs for severe chronic pain, I just took my last dose of MScontin. I have been taking 1000mg MScontin per day (which I weaned myself down from 1300mg over the past year)and 60mg methadone. I was an Actiq for breakthrough pain but I was able to wean myself off that pretty easily. I am not being forced to stop taking these meds, infact, my Doctor is only going along with it because I am insisting and he feels I will never be completely off opiates. I know that am going to suffer a great deal of pain without them, but I am sick of not being able to feel life. I am never really happy and I am never really sad, I always have the same flat affect. Anyway, (I am carrying on here)my question is cananyone tell me what I can expect to feel with the Suboxone. I know what withdrawels feel like I've tried to stop taking my meds (cold turkey) before.

Thank you for your postings. I am a former cancer patient and I'm now 69 yrs. old. Believe it or not this all started back in 1984 for me. It's too long of a story, but I had stage 4 colon cancer and underwent major surgery, 2 years of chemo. I only say this as a bit of background on how and why my addiction to MS Contin came about. I am now so fed up with being tied to a prescription of MS Contin every month and counting the hours each day to see when I can take my next dose. Not only that, it doesn't seem to be working anymore( I suspect my body has gotten too used to it over the years). After my cancer scare I was diagnosed with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and it's very painful so I'm now taking Remicade infusions for it every 6 weeks.
So here's my main question - of course I am scared to death over this, but when you first stopped your pain meds and went on suboxone, did you suffer through any withdrawal symptoms? A couple times I have messed up and didn't get my scripts filled in time and it was terrible! I just wanted to know how you felt when you first went on the suboxone and if you are aware of any side effects.
I just want to say thank you ahead of time for any info. You're willing to pass on to me.

To everyone that's starting suboxoins there a fast release the dr will make sure it's not to much, don't take more the. Told and if can take less! When I first started on them I was scared myself, it was only going to be a short term thing but it's been 7yrs now and the best 7 of my life! Stay true to them and they'll get you where you want to be off any and all other drugs! I don't look at suboxoins as a drug it's like a 2nd chance at life! I wish y'all the best hope they work for the ones starting them as well as they have for me! Loves hugs and blessings to all

I was a 16yr user it all started when I fell 30' off a roof and blew 2 dics out! Went to a dr and they put me on 10mg preacests, I took them 4 xs a day for 6 months, well the pain wasn't getting better so in 94 the dr said there's a new drug out called oxytocin and asked me to try them started out on 20mg well 3-4 months gone by and the pain started getting worse, so he moved me up to 40mg 3xs a day as said months gone by and they wasn't helping then got moved to 80mg 4xs a day well after 6 months on that mg they wasn't helping so then I was giving 80mg and 40mg to take 4xs a day! By then taking them the right way was over! I started injecting them! And from that day which was 1995 til November 15 of 2007 I was a heavy user! Didn't think I could live with out them! Well as that's stated I quit cold turkey for 4-5months but everyday wanted to use! Then a friend said why don't you try soboxins so I did! And from that day til now I've been clean of all drugs! (YES SOME SAY ITS JUST A SUBSTITUTE) but I disagree I gone from having just the cloths on my back and 3 great kids that I took from and lied to and worrying how I was going to put a roof over there heads and food in the bellies and lost all my family!!!!! All I have to say with all that is soboxins saved my life and gave me back everything I had and wished I had! Nov 15 of 07 til 11/25/13 I've been 100% clean of all street drugs as well as all pain meds! Thanks to soboxins I got my family back and have everything I wish I could've had. I'm 39 so about half my life was gone! My family comes around my kids have and get anything they want! My wife shows the love that I lost because of the drugs sorry this is so long but I want to (STRESS) suboxones isn't a bad thing if used right I take one some times 2 8/2mg flims a day and have for 7yrs they help with my pain as well keeps me from even having a thought about using! Yes I deal with a large amount of pain 24/7 but I'd rather deal with some tears and the pain then to ever go bk or put my wife and kids though the hell they gone though for 16yrs! Let me state as well 30 Drs told me I'd be in a chair at 30 well they was wrong yes I should be and if a good friend wouldn't have told me about them I'd be dead not in a chair! Thank god that I'm still here! I know many may read this and blew it off or say to them selfs he's full of crap! But I'm walking living proof that they can change ur life if you let them! Let me pls also  state I have a pretty 4month old granddaughter that if it wasn't for suboxones I wouldn't be here to watch grow along with 2 sons 8-9 and a 21 yr old daughter! And yes I've been disabled since 2003 so pls read this and think about my words there very real and I hope this may help just 1 person out there! YOU CAN DO! YOU JUST NEED TO TRUST IN UR DR AND YOUR SELF AS WELL AS HAVING THE RIGHT SUPPORT FROM UR FAMILY AND FRIENDS! I thought I had all kind of friends til I stopped using! If anyone that reads this ever needs someone to talk to pls reply to this post and I'll be very glad to help support you! (BUT KEEP IN MIND YOU HAVE TO WANT TO HELP URSELF BEFORE ANYONE CAN HELP YOU! SUBOXONES ISNT A BAD THING! I've been to over 200 meetings and out of them 200 I've been able to save 50 great ppl! Thank you for taking the time to read this if you have! (LIFES IS TO SHORT TO WASTE)

Going a week and a half without Suboxone was due to running out too early, I am prescribed 16 MG a day but sometimes stress and a little anxiety would make me take more (old habits are hard to break!) You really should not abuse this drug because a little goes a long way and for the most part I always have enough until my next visit.  I had some long talks with my Shrink about tapering off of Suboxone when the time is right and he said that most of his patients have tapered off with great success.  I have to say that Suboxone has curbed any cravings for opiates and it's useless to take any opiates with Suboxone beacuse it blocks your receptors and you don't get high!

You said you have been on Suboxone for a year and a half and that you have gone at times for a week and a half without any Suboxone. Is it that difficult to be weened off? I was under the impression that a person could be titrated down (over seveal months) without any w/d symptoms. I'm not judging you, it's just you are the first person I've chatted with that is actually on Suboxone and I have no idea what to expect. My goal is to someday be completely opiate free (including Suboxone).

I have been on Suboxone for about a year and a half, my addiction to opiates was getting worse by the month.  I was taking between 18 and 25 Vicoden a day for over 3 years and I really thought that nothing would help me with withdrawl, My doctor started me on Suboxone on a Friday and I was back at work on Monday feeling fine.  I take 16 MG of Suboxone a day and I do not crave opiates at all, I have gone at times a week and a half without Suboxone with little discomfort.  Suboxone is very pricey without insurance and I am glad I am covered.  Good luck!

Hopefully you wont feel too bad before you go in and get help.  I wonder if the w/d actually start when I begin to feel bad or do I begin to feel bad when I believe the w/d starts.  I always say that I feel bad after only a short time but I wonder if I talk myself into some icky feelings.  Ive always kind of been a hypocondriac (sp) so I really don't think i'll ever change, just wondering.  Is this common for people with addictions.?  Let me know how it goes, I'll say a prayer as well.

I don't have a definate appointment time. My pain management doctor is doing this and he told me to call when I start feeling  withdrawel symptoms (which I just took my last dose at 10am). So, I will probably be calling him to come in at 8am. Good luck to you, I'm glad to kind of have someone to go through this with. I will say a prayer for you tonight and in the morninng.
