What is gear? I think you are just about off the done and 7 mg. isn't doing that much. You could finish the taper quickly if you are ready and have some days off because you won't feel much different. You have done great and when your off of it copletly, make sure you don't take any more dope so you won't have to go through it again. all the best

if u go to the health pages u will c lots of info on methadone detox...methadone is not a popular doc..altho it can e a doc..oso u dont c tons of people here doing a detox from it...not morphine..certain drugs r not "as fun" as others...not to mean addiction can not occur...cos it can..methadone is simply a narcotic with a longer half life meaning wds can last longer..dose and length of use can have a huge impact..i have seen people stop a 20 mg dose after 10 yrs with lil problem//not an addict to//simp;y using it for pain..the clinic u go to should help..or the dr who rx's them to u..it is usually a slow taper//as with sub//if u r at a high dose for any length of time..and it is not that methadone is neglected//just more sub use now than methadone use..same probs so dont feel like it is not addressed...cos here and there it is...and keep posting cos a narcotic is a narcotic///dont matter what the name is!   (:

I started using  Methadone to kick a serious norco habit. went back and forth with both for the past few years. sometimes forced into to going CT, and having to still work,on top of it. it #$@%$ major @$$.  I soon started mixing them for a better buzz, and soon discovered that going CT all the times in the past...........did not help me at all.  had to go back to square one. sure seems to me,that it takes longer than just going ct on norcs.

methadone is just a synthetic opiate, that is stronger and much longer lasting, hence the longer you take it and teh more you take ...the tougher the WDs will be. I was lucky I never did more than 20-30mgs a day.

good news it can be done, with some determination and strength !

sorry i didnt see the post, i actually stayed on methadone for 10 years, came off a few times then went back on it, my last stint i was taking over 200mgs a day, went cold turkey ended up in icu, if you have any specific questions i would be willing to try and answer them, i worked in a facility that detoxes matience patients, and haev been in recovery for a while,
and yes there is a stigma here but only with a few stuck up addicts, most people understand that a drug is a drug
you are safe bringing this here, but the best place to seek help for recovery is at a 12step meeting or inpatient facility
methadone and suboxone wd take alot out of people, try and take time off work, ask someone to help you with chores, try not to do to much
my acute wd from mehtadone lasted a few months, then it eased up and i only had symptoms of post acute, i have more about the phases of opiate wd on my home page
i wish there was something i could say to make this easier for you, i have been to these high dollar treatment facilities and they have kept me sedated through the entire detox process, this was the worst thing anyone could have done for me, my last detox in 04 was horrible, i ended up deathly ill, thank god for that, i believe that we all need to feel our detox, if we dont we will return to use, so when i say to someone i wish you a long painful detox, its for the best,
the most important thing now is that you do not return to using a higer dose or another opiate,
do you have any plans to keep you off the drugs after detox?

Thanks everyone for the support, it just helps to hear that other people have done this.  I tried to get help from the clinic and, well there not very helpful with trying to get off.  I feel you said TysonRed, i mean i'm at 7mg's and its going to take two weeks to get off of constantly being uncomfortable.  If i just stopped if would be bad but only for a couple of days' well i dunno i'll keep every one updated

Ive gone both routes when detoxing off of methadone, I quit 40mgs cold turkey, only to relapse back into a bigger habit of 120mgs/daily. When I quit cold turkey it took about month for most of the w/d symptoms to subside. Unfortunately in my experience methadone has been the hardest detox Ive experienced between oxy's, suboxone or hydro. My personal opinion is once you get under about 10mgs your basicly just prolonging the agony of the detox. On the other hand our bodies are all so different you have to do what you feel comfortable with. So if you feel the need to keep tapering down mg by mg than by all means do so, you have to go with what you yourself think gives you the best chance. One thing that did help was taking clonidine, I know for some it doesnt do much, but I needed all the help I could get. Any sort of excercise can help speed up the process a little bit, but for most that seems impossible, but it works. Without naming medications, finding some sort of sleeping aid for the first 1-2weeks was vital. Just to be honest with my last go around with 120mgs of methadone I tapered down to 30mgs and went the suboxone route. Ive been clean since Oct.08 with one slight slip up that I quickly got away from. The good news is it sounds like you have the determination and will power to get it done, I know how hard tapering methadone is, it does take alot of discipline to stick to a tapering schedule. Just remember that when you do get off the methadone the real work of staying clean has to be taken just a seriously. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery, you can do this, and if theres anything that I can help with feel free to ask any questions you may have. Anyway congrats on your successful tapering so far, keep up the good work, dont ever give up. Again best of luck to you, take care.

Hi...
I was on Methadone for 10 months due to a heroine habit a few years back. I was only on 40 to 50 mgs of it. At one point I asked for the big "21-Day Detox" and they gave it to me. And it worked. I felt really OK, kept complaining of various body pains for a few weeks afterward, but Dr told me it was because I was not used to feeling any normal aches and pains and it just seemed painful to me, so I took Tylenol for awhile, and gained a bunch of weight (craved sugar), then eventually forgot about the whole thing for about 25 years. Now I have a Percocet habit I'm working to kick. Cant' get any help from the medical community cuz Im on Medicaid.
But short-term Methadone use helped me kick a nasty habit, with no ill-effects.

Yes -- from all I've read about Methadone -- and I know someone who's on it -- I doubt I'd ever try it. If it was easily available here (you have to line up at a drugstore every day and **** in a bottle, for three months, before you qualify for "take-home" (say, five days' worth) supplies, so that's just too much when you're working and all, and it's a ***** to get away from for just about everyone ... also, you can't take any benzos while you're on it here ...

Maybe the control is a good thing -- if I could just get a 14-day supply, well, yikes.

From what I know, 7mg is way down the scale -- if you can hang on, you could be off the stuff in a bit. Then it's aftercare, always.

Maybe Advil double-strength, hot baths, and getting out, even if just to stare at a fire hydrant ...?

Detoxing from methadone can be done, however it takes quite a while before you feel 'normal' again. My daughter is now 3 1/2 years clean from methadone, and is a Dean's List student in college, as well as working full-time and taking care of my almost-13 yr old granddaughter. Right now she is doing her  college 'clinicals' at a rehab facility for women who are getting clean from drugs/alcohol. When she graduates from college in August, she will be a certified drug/alcohol counselor, and is continuing college to get her Bachelor's Degree in the same.

She told me it took her more than a year before she felt 'right in the head', ie. no longer under the influence of methadone. Previous to taking methadone, her DOC was oxycontin, and she says she wished she had just detoxed from the Oxy, as she felt the withdrawals from the methadone were much worse than what the withdrawals of Oxy would have been.

Congratulations on your taper !! You have done well for yourself.. We are listening really.. RLS was the worst part for me..If you can pick up some tonic water it may help with the rls as the quinine in it is beneficial.. I also had found a product that gave enough relief for myself that it helped to cut the rls.. I bought a knock off of Hylands restful leg.. I was amazed it helped.. You can get this at the drug store.. Eagle is right there is no beast that can not be slain with support and determination.. I wish you the best and if you ever need a ear just look me up.. lesa

As you decrease your dose you need to consider everything.....when you get to 7 mgs its still a fight. Standard thought is to decrease your dose by 10% per week or ten days...give your body time to adjust to the lower dose so you dont have the w/d symptoms.....some have taken their dose down to 1/4mg and then dosed every other day for a couple weeks...then every third day for a week.....A decent clinic will "blind dose" you - decrease your dose without you even knowing,,,,,this eliminates the anxiety associated with knowing that you are decreasing the dose. But people are listening.....may not be what you want to hear sometimes....but they are listening. Again - you may PM me anytime that you wish....and good luck - this can be done.

I was on methadone for about 3 years, highest dose 60mg steady for 2 years down to 7mg's TODAY!!!!.  I'm very excited but the leg pain, lack of sleep, and anxiety is killing me.  I had to leave work early because i feel like i'm breaking down physically and mentally.  What have people done, i know its time for me to get off but man its so much harder than i could ever imagine.  I would suggest to anyone to pursue all other avenues before getting on meth maintenance.  Oh and forget about getting an answer from the clinic, they just want 160 a month because I have private insurance NOT state! Arggg they make me so mad....I posted this about a half hour ago and no one said anything, soooo i dunno it seemed as though no one was listening
