How Do I Deal?

I am not sure that I am going through true Oxycodone withdrawls... Can someone tell me what the symptoms of withdrawl are? For a little background... I was put on Oxycodone for pain relief after a major surgery in June, and for that I was taking 5mg every 4-6 hours. I find myself feeling that I need to take 3-7.5mg pills at a time now... Is that normal? Or is this a sign of dependence? I am scared... Please, any help would be appreciated.

You have just opened another can of worms with the tramadol and those pills are very addicting and the wd is not pleasant.  Please go into avisg's profile and read up on tramadol.  WD is no fun but you will not die from it.  You will feel like you have the flu for about a week with day 3-4 being the worse.  Look on the right hand side of the page and go into the health pages.....check out the amino acid protocol and get going on some type of vitamin therapy.  Get ahold of your life now while you can......keep posting    sara

Okay, I have been off of the Oxycontin for a few days, but now am taking Tramadol. Can anyone give me any information on this drug? I have heard that it is less addicitve than other pain meds...
P.S. Feeling okay without the Oxy, had some crazy sweating and a little bit of an upset stomach for a couple days, but all around went well.

I agree with everyone here.  After my first TMJ surgery back in 1991, I was given Lortab to take.  Nothing had ever made me feel that good.  I had suffered with jaw joint issues for so long prior to that.  I called it my "happy pill"!   Oxycontin was added to my Lortab about two years ago.  Please, please...stop taking these pills now!  you have no idea of what a hellish road you are on!   the good feeling that you feel now will become elusive and you will have to start taking more and more pills to try to get that "feeling", therein lies the addiction!!!!

That sounds like a problem to me .You had surgery in June its now aug that's is a long time to be on opiates for post operative pain.I think its time to talk to the doctor about weaning you off of them now before your problems are far worse

Thanks for the comments. I am trying to wean myself off of them, but am finding it very difficult. I have trouble sleeping at night, and this medicine has been helping! I do not want to take anymore, I just feel so good when I do.

you asked for the symptoms of withdrawal?  Well, you feel pretty much like you are dying or at least want to die.  Severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, unable to sleep or eat, hurt ALL OVER, cannot be still, sweats, feel feverish, it is like the flu but 100 times worse.  You have not been on your meds very long really, and the time to quit is NOW. If I could only go back in time to where you are now and know what I do now, QUIT NOW TODAY, PLEASE.

Love, Cindy

Hi, I've had some pretty major surgeries myself and went on loritabs.  If your surgery was in June, and this is August, maybe you don't have near as much pain as in the beginning or none at all?  Try tappering down and taking motrin.

I started with taking 1-2 5mg pills at a time last fall after a surgery, and ended with needing to take 12-15 10mg's a day....  the longer you take it, the more you need and want.  That is how the addiction starts.  STOP now if you can.

I had never been addicted to anything in my life until loritab, and I'm in my early 40's.

I've been off the loritab for 12 days now and am starting to see and feel benefits of being off of it.

Good luck.
