Very good advice, I just wanted to add, be careful with the Valium.  Benzos can often make you feel worse during w/ds, not to mention that of course they are addictive as well.

Stay close to the forum and keep posting.  Do you have any plans for aftercare?  That would be therapy, meetings, etc.  GETTING clean is far easier than STAYING clean.  The sooner you put an aftercare plan in place and start working on it, the better.

Best to you!

As someone previously stated, the amount is high enough to generate discomfort with sudden withdrawal. A responsible taper can make things easier, it definitely worked well for me! I reduced from 75mg per day by 10mg every 3 days. At various times I experienced increased pain, restless legs, diarrhea etc. However, I never deviated from that simple plan and I have been off of all narcotic pain relievers for 6 years. If your reasons for discontinuing the drug exceed your pain level, you can and will be just fine! Good luck to you!

Consult with your doctor. He/she can suggest you better because it puts the person at risk for overdosing because they may be off the opiates for a while, the body tolerance lowers then they relapse

This question was fine..It is just that we can not tell you how to taper. This is up to your Dr and You because we are not Drs nor do we know your Health record..
I would just take each drop and wait until your body gets adjusted to that drop..Then you can drop some more..BUT like Jugglin said, you would be better off having someone else hand them out. That tape in your Brain will play it back for just ONE more, and their you are defeating your purpose of trying to rid these poisons..Right now Drink TONS of water and add some Electrolyte powder to this..Also start taking some good vit/min to replenish back what we have lost during using. We will be here for you when you are in detox too, and will help guide you the rest of the way..BUT remember this is a WE thing and you should get some outside aftercare Support. The detox will be over soon it is working on staying clean that takes the Cake..
Wishing you the Best toward this wonderful new Life.
Bless

Welcome.  Everybody can react differently when withdrawing.  If you are tapering and have a trusted friend to help then make sure you give yourself a bit of time on each dose before you lower it.  I was not able to taper and went cold turkey as much as I tried - if I had access I could always justify taking another to get me thru.  However, to be fair, tapering will not insure you have no WD's.  You may feel minor WD"s between each taper.  This is why some folks just jump during their taper of pills - to get it over with.  When I jumped of vicodin, I had bad flu-like symptoms for 4-5 days. The rls and sleep issues lasted a few more weeks.  The lack of energy came and went for quite some time.  It is the mental/emotional stuff that hangs around for awhile.  As we put our brain thru a lot of cr@p with those meds and it takes awhile.
Have you see the Thomas Recipe link at the bottom of the page? It will give you a list of items on hand to help with symptoms for WD.  Make sure you hydrate.  Also, to help with the mentals you may watch some funny movies or crank your music to get out of your head.  Exercise if/when you can to help.
If you are here I'm guessing you are an addict?  Addiction is tough to manage without some kind of aftercare.  The physical WD's are one thing, but those cravings will kick in and your addict brain will have a tough time.  While tapering, I suggest you consider some kind of aftercare program. NA/AA are great choices, counseling, church.  Support is really important as we are not meant to walk this journey alone.
I wish you the very best and am sending prayers out your way.
Keep posting - whether to ask questions or just vent.  We are here to support you!

No, you didn't ask a bad question some boards have heavier traffic than others and I've noticed that timing is sometimes everything.

With that said, we are forbidden to give advice on dosing and titration since we're not privy to a lot of your other medical conditions, weigh, size, etc.

To answer your question, the average person is not on opiate medications long term. The doses you are giving assuming that you have not had any breaks and the use was consistent, is high enough that its definately not low dose or mild use.  You can safely assume that if you went from 70-90mg a day for that long to nothing you will likely have withdrawal. To what degree I don't know.  I do recommend that you talk to your doctor and get help coming off of them. A lot of times people try to come off of them on their own because they're too embarrassed to get help. This puts the person at risk for overdosing because they may be off the opiates for a while, the body tolerance lowers then they relapse and take the amount they were taking before and OD.  Its expected for someone who has been on opiate pain relievers this long to need help weaning off because Narcotics cause dependence over a long period of time whether or not the person is abusing them
