How do I know if I have been turned in for Dr shopping ?

O.K. first off thank u for anyone's help. Pharmacy gave me back my prescription and said he could not fill it. He also told me not to come back with any narcotic prescriptions, because he didn't want to to be called to testified.  I was shocked and I don't remember everything said, but he did use " dr shopping ". My question is how do I find out if he turned me into anyone for this. It has been 24 hours. The meds include hydrocodone ( which became a schedule 2 in my state this month ), Tramadol, and one for Tylenol 3. I visited the same ER several times for tooth pain, and a fall. Also about 4 dentists trying to get one to pull it. I filled two hydro from my old Dr, while filling the same from my new Dr. I recently requested my new Dr to give me tramadol instead of the hydro, so there was also that one. One ER trip out of town for my tooth. I have used about 3 different pharmacies. Two have my insurance, one doesn't. I realized I could get fired from my Dr, but I had no idea I could get into legal trouble. I realize there is a problem. No more scrips except from my primary Dr and only one pharmacy from now on. I am a nervous wreck and terrified  .

I just did think of something.  This particular pharmacist is NOT turning you in....not with giving your scrip back and what he said about not wanting to testify BUT he may have flagged your account.  This means that if you try to fill any more opiates at any other pharmacy they will probably call your doctor and make sure it is a legitimate scrip....so definitely stick to one doctor, one pharmacy.  I'm not saying he did flag you but it is very, very possible...the CYA syndrome...he's gotta do something to cover his butt and that may be what he did.  If you are flagged if you do ANYTHING that resembles doctor shopping you will get reported.  You are safe this time...but don't do anything else and stick to one dentist, one doctor, one pharmacist.  You do that and you'll be okay!

Hi I agree with the above. I have seen this question come on here so many times and people are just so scared. You were lucky that he did give that back to you and what he said to you too.
Now days the DRs & Pharmacies are getting very aware of the games people have played to get drugs. So now if you go to another dr and sit there and try to get a scrip they bring it up on the computer and can see that you just got one from another Dr. The pharmacies too. They want you to only go to one Dr and one Pharmacies for most of the controlled meds..Some meds you will have to go to another pharmacies if they need to be compounded because a lot of pharmacies do not do that..Most DRs will have you sign a Contract these days so they know you are only getting this from them and only using one pharmacist..You got lucky so just be safe and stick with one. I wish you the best.

Oh yes, for your chronic pain in your knees...I have the same thing and have had surgery on one knee so far.  Ask your doctor for lidocaine patches and voltaren gel.  They both help a LOT...

Don't worry so much...they really would have kept that scrip as proof for the doctor shopping....AND he flat out said he didn't want to have to go to court and testify...so no, he didn't turn you in.....the next pharmacist might though.  Your best bet is to stick to one pharmacy.  We have two but only because some of my hubby's drugs can only be found at one and others at the other one.  I let both pharmacies know that we had to use two.....easy peasy...be honest with them if you have to go elsewhere.

You are okay this time

I think you are safe....the doctor gave you the prescription back....IF they planned on turning you in the pharmacist would have kept it.  I agree that he/she was trying to scare you and I hope it worked because if you ever do it again you just may be turned in.
When my hubby was going through his cancer treatment all the doctors were giving him drugs...one time I couldn't find the particular one the chemo doc gave him and I wound up going to a pharmacy where they didn't know me.  They would not give me the scrip back until they talked to our primary care doctor.  Then he tried to scare me to death by saying he was going to make sure my very, very sick husband was going to go to jail.  I was SO pissed because his doctors are a team...they know who is doing what.  Luckily he did talk to our primary and filled the scrip...but I'll never go back there again because of that particular scare tactic.
If we had been doctor shopping we would have been turned in....that's why the pharmacist wouldn't originally give me the scrip back.  Thank the Lord my hubby has a great TEAM of doctors who keep in touch with each other.
Don't do it again okay?  You are risking everything!

Thank u. I will never do that again. One pharmacy, and primary care Dr will know of every med I am given. It was a major wake up call. Did u know at the pharmacy that u were turned in ? Sending prayers and positive thoughts for your trial.

I was just arrested for this. I think you have a small window of opportunity here to stop what you are doing, and you most likely will not go to jail. If I had stopped at the first pharmacist that told me they would not fill my meds, I would be OK right now. This should be a huge wake up call for you. My best bet is that the pharmacist was trying to scare you. I got caught by going to the wrong pharmacy at the wrong time. The woman looked up my history, and bam, I was caught. It angered her so much that she called the DPS on me, and here I am awaiting trial. Doctor shopping is very serious and counts as a felony in most states. Don't do it anymore, OK.

If you are looking for a time line, it took them about a week to arrest me.

I am not doing it any more trust me. I have  chronic pain in my knees, reason for the Dr. I filled the 2 from my old Dr to have extras. I realized Hydro wasn't working because I have built up a tolerance, so I have asked my current to prescribe tramadole instead. That is the only one I will be felling from now on. The ones from the er and dentist were for a tooth that is rotting out of my head and no one would pull it. I have know seen a oral surgen and am waiting on medicaid to approve it. I took a long look at all of this and no I don't think I have a problem. It was all for pain. This tooth is just going to have to hurt for now. I am concerned about the pharmacy contracting some one.

From everything you have stated it is considered doctor shopping. You cannot get these meds from different doctors. Simple as that. Do you think you have a problem with narcotics? Or do you think all of these prescriptions should have been filled for your issues? You are not in legal trouble yet but could be if you keep this up. Nowadays these drugstores are all connected through a network. You cannot have two or more prescriptions going at a time. Again, do you think you have a problem?
