How in the heck do you guys pay for Suboxone?

Ive been on Suboxone for a week and its going great! My doc gave me a script for 30 and I take 5 a day, this first script was just to try it. My insurance paid for it and my copay was 25 bucks, so Im thinkin GREAT!! He wrote me a script yesterday for the whole month and its for 150 pills. I go to the pharmacy and they tell me that my insurance will only pay for 30 a month ( thats ONE FREAKIN PILL A DAY!!!). The script is $550 bucks without insurance THATS INSANE!!!!!!!!!!! I go from 'everything is great" to Im in HELL in a matter of 5 minutes. How do you guys do it?

I agree, get the 8mg dose.  You can break them in half easily (they are scored).  If you need to, get a pill cutter and cut the halves again.  That will give you 4-2mg doses right there.  I would definitely check into what some of the other posters said about the perscription assistance program.  Reckitt Benckiser is the manufacturer.  as worried said, you don't have to buy all the pills at one time.  Get 2 weeks at a time, or what you can afford.

I take sub and for 30 days it costs me 180 with insurance.  I pay another 40 for each doctor visit.  I started taking 4-8mg tabs a day and am now down to 2 tabs a day.  While it is expensive, it is MUCH less expensive than my DOC, and I feel i have my sanity back.  If you go back to the OC, it won't work for the first few days, or while the sub is still in your system.  FYI

yey...was gonna say the same thing as flmagi...30 -8 mg pill would be just about enough for a month if u r on 8-10 mg a day...i do know that people grow tolerant to the pain control provided by sub and then it is not as effective for pain relief after a while...if u r in chronic pain and are going to have to take something..and were able to use responsibly and as prescribed..then i would opt for a different narcotic for pain relief than suboxone
another option is to have the doctor call and switch the scrip to the 8 mg pills...u do not have to buy them all at once...good luck in ur decision...

Hi Voice- ---- Just a note to say that if I were you I would do a lot of research on Sub --- this sounds crazy to me since I used Sub to withdraw from a large Oxy addiction -- but the W/D from Sub is pure unadulterated He!! so - let the buyer beware ----  For me it was not a good pain reliever at all and the addiction to it was horrible.  I would not wish Sub on my worst enemy.  Hey, all the best - -- please keep posting  your own experience with Sub.

You could go back to your doctor and ask for the 8 mg pills, that way your insurance will cover it. You'll just have to break them up for your doses.  The 8 mg pills are cheaper anyway.

Suboxone isn't FDA approved in the US for pain mngmnt. Buprenex - the liquid form of suboxone's active ingredient - was originally used for pain control back in the 90's early 00s.--> Just a small piece of useless info!!

It's seriously smart to get off the sub for many reasons. One being it's super expensive and doesn't help with pain one iota. Here's some random info for ya - you don't have to wait 36 hours after your last sub before you take a roxy. Actually, you could take a roxy the same day you take your last sub. It won't make you sick or anything, worst case senario is you don't feel the full effects of the roxy until it's been 36 hours. But it should help with the pain a little bit. Hope that helps a bit!!

Im on the 2/0.5 the smaller one and I take 4 to 5 a day. 2 morning and 2 night. and I WASNT ON ANYTHING, I take Suboxone instead of Roxys for pain management. It kills the pain and NO side effects like the Roxys. I know I know what your thinkin, yea my doc thinks he is a genius and that Sub is gonna be the new miracle drug for pain. It works okay I guess but not as well as Roxys or Morphine its just safer so the doc likes it. Im calling him today and tell him I want my Roxys back at least they were 60 bucks a month instead of 550!!!!! Now I have to wait 36 hours and go thru HELL to get the Sub out of my system before I can take anything else. YEA he is a genius alright.............

check with the manufacturer of the medication, alot of time they will either give them to you or at a discount. also google "help with prescriptions" and that will give you several programs that will help you. Hope that helps.

5 a day? what were you taking to warrant 5 a day. I was on 2 and a half to start and I thought that was alot. My insurance did not cover the doc visits ($250 per) but covered the subs. ($30 for month supply). Still, 5 a day?

I agree - --- You are on one huge dose of Suboxone ------ I would question the need for such a large dose.  Sub is really addictive and a couple of weeks at that dose will have you hooked so bad you will have extreme difficulty getting off of them.  Please go the the health pages and find the post titled "Members experiences coming off of Suboxone."  You may find some interesting things there that may  help you.  All the best.

By "Patient Assistance Programs".  I rcvd my subox (for the 2 yrs I was on it one time) entirely for FREE direct from the mfgr. (I forgot the name of the co that makes it, but it's a strange sounding name I think).  Anyway, just track that down and then find and go to their website and search for the PAP section.  They will have a form to fill out.  Now, of course, it is dependent on criteria of the amt of your income and whether you have ins.  But it is def worth checking into.  Also, in case you didn't know you can get MANY diff types of meds this way.  My boyfriend actually gets his OC's (and a huge amt of them) direct from Purdue and only pays a flat $25 processing fee!  And that is only part of why I cannot get myself off of them (the OCs).
Good luck w/trying to get the subox for yourself.  If there's any other way I can help out w/it, let me know and I'll be glad to try and help.
