How long did your rebound pain last?

My neck hurts so bad.  It comes and goes, but when it gets here it stays for several days.  My left knee hurts bad today.  My right knee replacement worked like a charm, but the left one, which I did a year ago November, didn't heal right.  I have not been back to the surgeon, but have been treated by other doctors who say I have lymphedema, probably as a result of the surgery.  Today the pain after walking was exactly like it was before the surgery.  I'm worried that it didn't work.  I've been taking tylenol for the pain, but sometimes it doesn't stop until I get off of it.  It's hard to get exercise with this problem.  Could this still be rebound pain?  106 days off of low dose methadone, and 29 days off Norco (was taking 12 pills a day. 10/325.

Great advice lulu, and you are sooo right. This year it's going to be me, myself and I. I have to be strong and ready for my daughters big wedding in October. 5 weeks ago, I saw myself either not going or going in a wheel chair. Everyday, I get stronger n stronger, and I will be dancing in High Heels and a beautiful gown that day, because it's all about me this year! and... if nobody likes it, I dont give a rat's behind. lol

My New years resolution is to take care of my health first, before others. I have always done things even if I didnt feel good, so others wouldnt be mad at me. Well, now that Im off the prescription meds, I have been feeling crummy and working on a better tomorrow, and I dont care if others get mad if I cant go to a birthday party, or shopping or to the movies. My first order of the day for this entire year is ME! So, donnot feel guilty or bad, take care of yourself, a healthy happy MOM, is a great MOM! xo

thanks Sandra,  Since you are up and at em, here at the forum today, do you mind if I vent a little.  My husband told my oldest son we would go to church with him today.  By we, I mean him and me and my two younger sons who live at home.  It involves an hours drive, probably going out to eat, visiting a little and an hours drive home.  My left knee has been swollen and I iced it and heated it yesterday.  This morning I just said "no."  I have to go to work tomorrow.  I'm a teacher.  They don't.  I feel so guilty.  I have been wanting to go to my son's church with him, but today is just not the day for me.  If I do it, and my knee swells up again, then I will have to work like that tomorrow.  The kids wanted to stay home and sleep.  We insisted that they go.  I know I shouldn't feel guilty, but I do.

I bought my juicer at kohls. I have 3 helath food grocery stores near me so I can get FRESH organic veggies and fruits. They are expensive, but my health is worth it, and juicing alot in the beginning, then only have to do it 2x's a week once your inflammation and helath gets better. Regular grocery stores have organics, but usually not much and they are floppy, but anything is better than nothing. Always drink a glass of water or decaf hot green tea first in morning with lemon. The lemon in water alcolizes the system. I also drink 1oz of liquid glucosomine chondroiton after a nice helathy breakfast too. Seems to be working fabulously even before I started juicing. Good luck to you and read up on it as much as u can to learn good health for yourself. xo

Ok Sandra, I'm convinced.  We have a Walmart, Kroger, Brookshire Bros., and HEB here in my little town.  We do have one health food store, but its small and expensive.  We have GNC too.  Where would I start?  Do they have all that stuff at the grocery store?

all awesome advice, i love it! as far as veggies and fruits, I hated them!!!! Never ate them, juicing givies it a whole new taste.Mabye cause I feel its going to work, so.... I work with it. Add alot of greens to the juicing, kale, red swiss chard, broccolli, and you can also add 2 to 4 apples and or oranges. It takes alot of veggies to make an 8oz cup, so today, Im going to the health food store ( its called Wild by nature) and buying bags of organic veg's and fruits. to make a weeks worth. also learned to buy the mason jars at walmart $6.00 for a case of 12 because the juice oxidises after 20 minutes so jarring them and put in fridge, Ill have a bunch for a week and drink 2 a day. they are actually deliscious! ok ttyl xo

I have to throw my two cents in...I am sorry you are still suffering in pain.  Have you tried swimming or aqua aerobics?  Both are very good for mobility and have no impact so are easy on the joints...I've done both and they help immensely with my RA.  I juice-apples, beets, carrots and ginger.  It's delicious and detoxifying and really you only taste the apples and ginger...Try one at a juice bar and see what you think...The energy is amazing.  Also-I have a natural pain medication called Recovery (health food store).  It was recommended to me by a woman who was on opiates long term for severe chronic pain and then detoxed.  She started taking it three days in and her symptoms all but disappeared.  I just started it.  I have spent literally thousands of dollars on alternative treatment plans...But hey-it only takes finding the right one right?  And about positive manifestation (theory behind the secret) It really works.  Honestly-I put an intention (has to be positive) out to the Universe and it comes back ten fold.  I was stuck for awhile on the drugs cause I was so depressed and could only think about what I couldn't have instead of what I could.  25 days clean for me and wonderful things keep happening...And I think it's because of my positive intentions that I really and truly believe.  It is definitely a learned behaviour.  I keep this thought in mind...It takes a lot more courage to be happy then it does to be miserable.  I think it's because as human beings we are so afraid to have happiness only to lose it..so we never let ourselves be truly happy.  Just food for thought.  I think that every day we move forward in our recovery is brave and about reclaiming happiness.  I hope you find what works for you.  Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to 'be well' for others...I've been doing that for years and it only made me sicker and feel like a failure.  It's a learning curve....Sending support...Lu

Drinking vegetables isn`t my thing either. I gag when I even smell a V8 but I loooove all vegetables. I have taken a product called greens plus in the past. They are capsules and provide awesome nutritional support. Hemp seeds are other tasty little morsels to put in yogurt and add to a salad or pasta. They taste nutty and are a great source of omegas. I was living such a healthy lifestyle and when I relapsed I slowly stopped caring. Ive been clean since Nov 18 and have gained a few pounds too...ugghh. Anyhow I was so happy to come across yours and other`s posts today about recovery and weight gain. It has motivated me to get back into a healthier lifestyle.

I have been hearing alot about the power of positive thinking lately. Last night I watched "The Secret" and was very intrigued. I'm not going to get all metaphysical on everyone...in fact, I'm a true skeptic at heart LOL. The main premise is that all circumstances are governed by the laws of attraction. If we are always worrying about the bad stuff that can happen then we attract it and it's bound to happen. Likewise if we focus on the positive and the good things that we want to happen to us then that positive energy is sent out into the universe and will return to us in the form of a "miracle" or favorable experience. Now there is no solid proof that this is true but there is no proof that it isn't. So today I started with positive affirmations about getting back into a healthier lifestyle and look what I've encountered. Strange. Coincidence? Maybe but I'm goin with it! We have to be our own 'thought police' and arrest any negative thinking. This will take practice but I think it's certainly worth the effort ;o)

Thanks  for responding.  Juicing sounds...uh...promising.  I hope you get the results you want with that.  You know I read a post today that said you should refocus all your energy on getting healthy rather than thinking about what you've given up.  Sounds like you are doing that Sandra.  And Mangel, your post are always informative and uplifting.  I do need to go back to surgeon.  I do wear compression hose and have a pump garment at home.  I haven't been using it though as it  has seemed clastrophobic since I've been detoxing.  The surgeon is a good 1 and !/2 hour drive and I work, so I've been putting it off.  Will have to get another referral and all.  It's so frustrating.  My husband wants me to be well.  And I want to be well.  Honestly, I can't stand the thought of juicing and I hate vegetables.  Its probably what got me into this mess.  I've gained 15 pounds though, recently, and juicing would probably help me with my weight.  I've heard you can cover up the veggie taste with fruit.  Let me know how it goes Sandra.  I'm interested.

Sorry to hear that you still struggle with pain. That must be frustrating to have surgery and still have pain and limited mobility. Sometimes the lymphnodes behind the knee are damaged during surgery and cause swelling and pain. There are lymphedema therapists who perform specialized massage to reduce the swelling. I would go back to the surgeon for some direction in how to best manage the swelling. He would be able to tell you if compression stockings are right for you and also perform an xray to rule out any mechanical factors that may be contributing to the pain. I agree with Sandra..juicing and other nutritional supplements can be helpful but always get doctor's approval as he knows your health history and is able to identify any contraindications to topical and oral NSAIDS. I hope you feel better soon. Until then, take it easy and rest when you need to.

I am 35 days off of oxy's and still having major rebound pain. I use lidocain patches, aspercreme, glucosomine chondrotin, hot pads, and just started juicing today. Ive been reading alot about juicing and how it can heal inflammation as I have about 6 different kinds of body pains to deal with. I will be juicing 2x's a day for as long as it takes. Read up about juicing and how it heals, I think it's a good thing to do after detoxing anyways. Look up, " the juiceman" on you tube.
