How long do the withdrawals last?

I was on morphine- 60 MG, 3/day for chronic back pain for 3 months. I lost my Pain Management doctor, and now can only get percocet- 10-650...5 a day. I want to quit cold terkey!!! I cannot afford a DETOX TREATMENT. I need to know how long the withdrawals are expected to last, and what to take-over the counter, thats not addictive in itself, that will help until the withdrawals are gone. I have been addicted to heroine before and quit cold terkey in 8 hellacious days... Is this going to take longer, is it worse withdrawal-wise, and what can I do to lesson the withdrawals, if anything. I was a mixed martial arts fighter for 5 years, and have terrible back and shoulder pain, but can tolerate the pain, more easily than the dependancy. Help me, any one, if you can answer these questions. Thanks.

OMG! I tried to use remidies I purchased at the store, bananna's, apple juice, and Night Time Sleep aids pills-over the counter. I ate 3 bannana's, 3 glasses of apple juice and took 2 sleeping aid pills...(I have backed off my dosage of percocets as far as I can-requireing 1 10-650 every 8 hours instead of the doctors required 6 hours) Within 2 hours of my needed last dose of percocet, I was in pure raw agony, twitching and jittery, pacing and so uncomfortable, it felt like spiders were crawling over every inch of my skin. I didn't even feel any normal pain, I was so beyond feeling anything normal. I've never felt so miserable in my life!! Coming off of heroine as a teenager was kids stuff compared to this! When I started using percocet in place of morphine, there was no real wd problem at all.

But this, I broke almost instantly and had to take 2 just to get rid of the feelings.
I don't think I can do this. I live alone in a very nice studio apartment with my pet Rat Terrier, and being alone seemed to make things worse. I've no one to turn to, and all my friends do pills or pot, so I can't depend on any of them. In the past, pot helped alittle bit, when coming off of a drug like heroine or cocaine, but I am afraid to get some and try it for this, if it doesn't help, I've messed up my prescription and wont get percocets anymore at all!

God, how I wish I'd never have done this in the first place! I could deal with the sweats, soreness of back and legs...its the nerves, sensitive skin, and jitters that drive me totally insane!
Its so bad, if I can't kick this I'm afraid of what I'll do. I'm not the suicidal type and don't consider it a solution-being a christian, but can't help that coming to mind as an instant solution, ya know?

Its crazy, I know...for a guy once dubbed as "Mr. Invincible" in the ring, but damn, this has got to be the worst thing in the world to defeat!!!

I don't know what to do.

~~Gary

Gary I don't know anything about heroine or morhine, but I think percocet isn't that far off from the Vicodin that I was taking ... I just don't want you to feel ignored as I see you've started three threads and not got much of a response.  I think most of the people are sleeping at this hour.

If you read the forum you can probably find the answers you seek while you wait for more knowledgable people to wake up.  I know typically you feel as if you have the flu for about 3 to 5 days and most people on here recommend the Thomas Recipe to help get thru it which includes vitamins to help your body mend.  But come one, we've all been sick before and lived thru that and you yourself said you've detoxed befor and lived thru that!  I'm confident you can find it in yourself to make it thru.

Please stick around awhile.  I would think coming off Pecocet couldn't be worse than coming off Heroine.  I've quit the Vicodin a few times and honestly I didn't think it was that bad.  I think I'm lucky though.  I never got sick, but did have the all to common runs, most times I just have aches and really tired, the restless legs, lack of energy and lack of motivation.  I did have sneezing and because of that back in my less educated days I thought I was unlucky enough to have caught a cold when I ran out of pills.

Live and learn, and learn I have!  As I'm sure you have ... that this is not the kind of life that is going to get us anywhere.  Hang in there Gary.

WD's vary from person to person and depend on a number of things including the amount of use, the length of use, your age, and each WD seems to be worse than the one before. Most of the physical symptoms (flu like symptoms) will be over in 4-6 days and then the mental kicks in and there is no telling how long that will last. Check out the thomas recipe on the health pages on the top right of this page to help ease some of your WD's, and most importantly plan on some aftercare....N/A, AA, or some drug and alcohol counseling. Keep in mind that it WILL end, when I was WD'ing knowing that it would end kept me going. Good luck to you, you CAN do it, and please keep us updated on how you are doing
