After taking approximately 32mg to 80 mg of Dilaudid for approx 10 years as a Disabled Vet and currently incarcerated and withdrawals and pain really hit me after about 8-10hrs is this being realistic for jailers said I wasn't withdrawing yet ? And was this dangerous with them (Police ) not giving me medical attention after asking 2-3 times for withdrawals and for pain problems and was ignored but milked me telling me I was going to see a DR  soon... Then they thought  I must have been delusional because I was given a breath a breathalizer test which tested for no alcohol which I did tell police I haven't drank alcohol for 25-30 years and taking these meds and drinking could kill me also. Oh and I forgot to say I also take 10mgs of Methadone twice daily. Were they playing with my life?? I would like to know because it sure felt that way!!!

I have been on dilaudid since dec/08 after a surgery based on MALS, a vascular problem, that turned out (the pain), most likely the doc's now say, NOT to be MALS related after all (median arcuate ligament syndrome). Initially the pain under my rib, weight loss, and inability to eat, twisted artery were all thought to cause this unbearable  pain, after surgery it came back with a vengence, intotal between aug and nov 08 I was iadmitted 4 times. Eventually they threw up their hands and most now say it is neuropathy. I take 4 mg of dialudid  am and pm. Without it, I start sweating, coughing, cannot walk due to stomach pain, etc. Ive been working hard not to increase the dose. I know the pain is still there, so I seem to still need the dilaudid, I guess my question is would I need to go to detox to get off it and what are long term effects?

In order to help we will need to know how long and how much you have been taking.  Welcome to the forum --- try to share some more information about yourself.  Dilaudid is one powerful narcotic and w/d's depend on how much and how long you have been using.  All the best.
