How to make it through withdrawl symptoms?

How did you get through the first week of going cold turkey off Oxycontin/pain killers? I tried it a couple of weeks ago and it was really really awful feeling. One of the worst feelings I've ever physically felt. On day 3 my boyfriend broke up with me, and I couldn't handle it anymore, and relapsed. Tomorrow, I am starting again, and am really, really dedicated this time. I don't have much support from friends/family, and I wanted to just get any feeback from anyone who has overcome this. I have been doing about 100mgs of oxy per day for about 4 months now. My boyfriend got me started on them, and I had no idea how powerful and addictive they would be. I have never been addicted to anything before, and I am scared and ashamed. I want to be free. I can't take the feeling of stressing out when I get low, and having to find them by calling everyone I know. I want to stop before I mess my life up. I am desperatley serious about quitting and have to go back to work in 5 days. Any adivice on what could make the awful withdrawl feeling any better or faster? What helped for you? Please, I am desperate and could use help. I need strength, and I don't feel strong right now. Any answers would be so helpful. It's at least good to know that others have gone through it and overcome it as I am about to try and do. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for all of your help. I am at the end of day 1 and feel ok. not great, but not too terrible either. I decided to skip the methodone all together....would rather just go completely CT without anything else....what are pms and how do I check them?

I have absolutely no experience with methadone or oxy (my DOC was vicodin) but many people here have went CT off of oxy without any help whatsoever except some or all of the Thomas Recipe.  You made it 3 days before and really that is mostly the worst of it.  You were almost on the other side when you caved, although I'm not judging you for caving we have all done that!  Once you get to day 4 you do begin to feel better.  You aren't wonderful, happy, jolly great, but you DO feel better and it does get better everyday after that.  So, if I were you I'd skip the methadone and go CT.  You know what will probably happen with the mdone?  You will take it to alleviate the WD symptoms, it will make you feel better during WD but when you run out of the mdone the WD symptoms will hit you full force.  It's prolonging the inevitable is all.  Do it now, and in 5 days you'll be somewhat functional for work.  Good luck and PM me anytime if you need a cheerleader or keep posting.  This forum is awesome for advice and encouragement.

I also forgot to add that I was crushing them up and snorting them. A friend, also addicted, gave me about 10 methadone pills yesterday and told me to take one in the morning and one at night for 5 days and that will help alieviate some of the w/d symptoms. Is this true? Should I do that or not?
