Hey there. I just read this thread and I noticed that you had stomach issues (normal for detox) weeks ago. Which means that you've had detox symptoms for almost one month. That lasted way longer than it needs to because of your taper. When we taper, we still detox. I had jumped from 8 to 10 a day, and many people jumped from a lot more. Like Lulu said, it's an ineffectual taper.

Going from 1 pill per day, to a smaller pill per day will do nothing in terms of detox. Just jump. What's stopping you may I ask?

Still on the taper, My stomach is better. I have found something that might help others. It really helped my stomach to chew a small piece of ginseng everyday. If I can just make the jump now, I'm down to 10 to 15 mg per day and have been. I am gonna try to move to 7.5-10 mg starting Tmr. Then 5- 7.5 for a couple days then take the leap I hope. That's my goal.

Stomach is 80% different then it was last weekend. I only took two 7.5 yesterday. So the taper is working good for me. I have to say I feel a lot better!!! Only the strong survive!!! It's a struggle but what achievement isn't??

Hi there GbStrong :)

That's awesome that you're feeling a little better & are adjusting to your drops. Yup, the last part is the most difficult. (physically but mostly mentally). I think you're making a wise decision in letting someone else dole them out to you. I hope that you have some support around you & that you're leaning on them, my friend.

So, have you been able to cut your 'sources'? (How do you feel about this?)

Best of the Best to you! :)

We're here.

I am feeling better everyday, I went to work today. The taper is working for me. When it gets down to one and a half to two per day I am gonna give to someone to hold for me and give them to me only if I have to use them. I have them now and over the last few days have really cut down. I'm really at the 2 a day now. I only had 2 and a half yesterday and 2 10 mg hydros today. It's still hard, don't get me wrong but I will beat this for me and my family.

Thank you, I am feeling a lot better today, my stomach is feeling some better, I seem to have more energy then I have the last 2 and a half weeks. One day at a time. Really looking forward to having all this behind me so I can get back to a free from addiction life. I know it's still gonna be a hard road but I have to travel that hard road to get to a smoother one. Thanks again these post really help me.

Howdy :)

I hear you on your emotions being all over the place. It's really a roller-coaster at first! We're finally able to feel in a way that weren't able to on drugs as our brain chemistries & very feelings come alive after a period of opiate-induced spiritual & bodily 'lock-down'. This will start to level out soon enough. What you're going through is completely 'normal'. Just try to stay in the present moment & understand that the mood or whatever will pass & that it's okay to laugh or cry..whatever is going on, it's all a necessary part of it & it's actually a blessing & part of the 'work' to start grappling w/ this new stuff.

Hot baths are awesome! They really helped me & a lot of other folks here. (Even better, try them w/ salt or Epsom salts). Your gut issues will resolve, though it may take a little while. Keep hydrating, try to stay away from caffeine, junk food & like Robin mentioned above, too much protein. We eat way too much protein in this country, anyway :) (About 7 grams of high quality protein a meal is ideal). If you smoke, that won't help your gut either. I think if I'd cut that out, my digestive stuff would have resolved earlier. But hey, one thing @ a time, eh? A good probiotic may also help.

How are you doing today?

Just wanted to say you're doing wonderfully, hang tough! You're a warrior :)

You got this, my friend.

I read somewhere that when you get out of very hot bath, the cooling down process your body goes through makes you sleepy, and that its the best time to try and go to bed....thought maybe that would help.

Okay...it's 11:50 pm here, and my husband is yelling "Robin!!!" so I need to leave my office (at the southern end of my house) and face THE ENEMY (lol)....my BED.  Sigh.

I'll put on something boring (believe it or not, bad 60's tv sitcoms act like video-valium and help me sleep...Gilligan's Island, or something dumb like that.)

Here I go!  Talk to you tomorrow, sweetie!!

Hugs,
-Robinhood

If that's true, then I gotta be honest with you...your stomach is going to be a mess for a while.   Eat small amounts of food frequently, and go easy on protein.   Protein molecules are huge and difficult for the stomach to break down....when I was in days 1-4 of recovery I tried sipping protein shakes, and OMG, it was a horror show.

Bananas are good, and they have potassium.   Piping hot chicken broth, pasta, maybe some dry toast or an English muffin.  Baby your stomach.    I had a heating pad on mine 24/7 for the first 16 days.

Hi honey:

How are you feeling today?  Did you have stomach issues before you started taking the opiates?   I have always had what doctors in the 1960's called a "nervous stomach." (Our stomachs react to stress immediately...I was abused pretty much from birth, and my GI tract has been a mess ever since.)

I'm on day 74 today and can honestly say my stomach is still not back to normal, but I'm not sure it ever was.   Aside from nausea and upset, though I clearly remember that the first 2 weeks without opiates it HURT, and the description of "too many sit-ups" is perfect...that is exactly how it felt.

It got better.  People here often say you should eat lots of fruits and veggies, but if I even looked at fiber in my first 14 days, I'd be running to the bathroom with diarrhea.  All I could handle was noodles, chicken broth, and Gatorade.

To jump back to your dosages for a minute....I too, tapered down---from 40 mgs of oxycodone a day to 10 mgs a day.  I finally just jumped after 3 days at 10 (still had pills in the bottle) because I was already in withdrawal and the taper just seemed to be prolonging things...so I second Lulu's advice here.

You are young; your time to recover will be MUCH better than if you were in your fifties (like me.)

Hang in there, and keep posting!

Hugs,
-Robin

Hi there. Congrats on stopping. That is huge!  I just joined after reading posts for a while now. I just took some time off from work and am going cold turkey in two days. How have you felt emotionally since quitting?  Do you have any energy or get-up-and-go?  Sorry I couldn't be much help... Yet!  Hang in there!

I know the tummy ache *****.  If you can put little bits of food in your body (bland toast, crackers, chicken broth) it really helps.  Drink plenty of fluid.  A good antacid or anti-nauseant helps also.  Just be positive and see this as your body ridding itself of poison.
You can do this!!!

Thank you, I have always been a very strong person and I know I can do this.  Thanks again, if my stomach would just quit hurting so bad, it's crazy because it does feel like I have done sit-ups all day yesterday. Someone posted that it was kinda like working out, and getting sore.  That related to me so much.

Hey there Gotta Be Strong!

That is what we call a super rapid ineffectual taper.  You have done such a drastic drop that the pills you are still taking are not really helping, and in fact, at this point you are just prolonging the withdrawals.  If you are only taking 2.5 mg it's probably better to just stop, and get the detox over with.  Look up the link that Annie sent you and stock up on detox supplies.  The worst will be over in 4-7 days, but after that length of use you can expect insomnia, RLS, general anxiety, and aches and pains for about 3 weeks to a month.  However, everyone reacts differently.  The thing is, the only way to get to the other side of this and to be feeling good and healthy and CLEAR is to go through it.  It's not easy, but it is so totally worth it!!!

When you get rid of the pills, tell your secret (this is really important) and take that leap to get your life back, it is AMAZING what can happen.  You need to be okay with just not being okay for a little while....Because the gift you get at the end is incredible- you get YOU back.

No one does this alone, support is key when it comes to staying clean.  In fact, getting clean is the easy part.  So think about what you can do to set up a support system for yourself in your real life.
Meanwhile, we will all be here cheering you on.  We can talk you through this.
Keep posting....

Thank you, my prescription dose approx. 8 years ago was two 7.5 a day.  Two weeks ago I was taking approx6-10, 7.5. Or 10 mg. whatever I had. I have worked, and very active in my community. No one knows what I am going threw right now. ( people in my town, family).  I decided it was time to stop about two weeks ago, but I am tapering and have been now for two weeks. For example today I have had 2.5 mg.  now two weeks ago at this time of the day I had probably had 70 mg.
