staying off of pain meds is hard!

Hello everyone have not posted in a while. I stopped taking pain meds at the end of july and was doing great till I started having kidney stones like 4 within two months so of course I took lortabs I was in so much pain. Now I find myself wanting then more not for pain but for energy and it does not help that my husband gets them all the time so when he gets them im like ok just give me one. So now I have to stop again I dont take them all the time but I dont need to take them at all.

The good thing is,your going to the dr to treat it..don't beat yourself up? Kidney stones hurt.. I'm almost 4 days since my last one.. I feel weak but I'm getting by.stay strong

well another kidney stone going back to the doc this week gonna find out why I keep having them! Weaver I drink bottle water bc the water I have in my area is not to good.Thanks for the support. I told my hubby if he gets something I dont want to know about it bc im not strong enough to say no right now.

When I compare the pain of kidney stones with labor, I remember that with labor, I would get a break for a little bit to catch my breath.  Kidney stones don't work that way!!!  There's no breather.  Nothing but pain.  You probably don't have the stones that come from dairy.  You may have the other.  There's a med you can take for it every day that prevents them from occurring.  It also treats gout.  They put me on it for a while and told me not to drink as many diet cokes.  Well, actually told me not to drink ANY if I wanted to be sure I didn't have another.  They sent mine to be analyzed.  You may be able to get them to do that for you and find out for sure what kind it is!  It would be a relief to not have one ever again! : )

How's the water in your area and how much carbonated water do you drink? Most people can prevent stones by increase of an increase in clean water and avoiding excess minerals and hard water. They do have meds that disolve stones, some. It still hurts, but I'd stay away from the opiates as best you can. I remember you from summer, and you decided to quit and just did it. I'm cheering for you, don't continue to make drugs a lifestyle. It really does get worse, as others have said. Get your support together, tell everyone, and leave the pills behind. You'll stop thinking about them, just believe in yourself and why this is so important. Everyday, remind yourself of how bad it will be and has been. Remember what you have to gain in family life, friendships, and health.

"i just want them now" is what got me using again. Tread lightly! All it takes is one. I really feel for ppl with legit pain issues. I dont know much about stones but im sure theres alot more than nuts and milk that causes them. using cannot be an option!. i dont know your history, but i can tell you the more times you have to go through this crap the harder it gets. Do whatever you have to to stay away from that first one. good luck to you.

I am not taking anymore I just want them now lol! I never did any after care just this forum. Everyone on here is great I would not have been able to stop without them. LeaAnn they are so much worse than labor atleast with labor you know your getting something wonderful. They said milk and nuts cause stones but I dont drink milk or eat nuts so not sure why I keep getting them. Ive had a kidney disease for 13 years but never stones! Your right! It is hard. The only thing i can think of thats harder is staying on them. If you continue, like Ricky said, that one tab wont do crap. Then its two, then three, then a roxie. You think coming off tabs is hard? Id give anything to go back to my original detox when I was only taking tabs. Do yourself a favor and stop now. You have a beautiful family, dont let these little bastards take that from you. Good luck!

Stop while you're ahead.  Im detoxing from a drug addiction and im 8 days since my last dose.  Its hell and i was on much more potent narcotic.  A lowertab don't do anything for me anymore,  its like a tylonel because i started on lowertab but needed much stronger pain medication as addiction grew on a life.  

These people here are great.  Take the advice.

I got through it without pain pills.  They put me to sleep and went in and got the stone.  It was NOT fun!  I really am sorry that you have them.  It's one of the most painful things in the world.  To me, it was worse than the labor with my girls.  If you get one again, maybe they would keep you in the hospital to manage your pain?  It's usually taking them home that gets us, right?  You may have to tell the doctor that you are a recovering addict and see if that is an option.  The way I saw it, I would rather go through kidney pain than the pain of addiction and withdrawal again.  I was pretty determined at the time....obviously!  LOL

Let's just pray and hope that you don't get another one, and you can be happily in recovery from now on!  What kind of after care do you do?  That also helps a lot when/if something comes up.

I just told my husband that and he said you dont take enough of them but my point is that I will only take more and more and will be back on them full time again and I dont want that. Hopefully nomore kidney stones and I want have to take then again bc there is now way to get through them without anything.

You're right.  You can't get clean taking one every now and then.  You'll be at a full blown addiction again before you know it.

Kidney Stones is one of the thngs that keeps me from stopping. We need them for a stone, how do you get around it? Anyway, I'm not one to talk I just relapsed. Ill let someone else give you some advice. Sorry that you feel the way you do though.
