Hydrocodone use

I've seen the archived thread on people coming off hydrocodone; my Rx runs out before my refill is available. I know I am using too much now (60mg APAP w/6000mg Tylenol).  I've gone through this before, the horrible w/d issues etc.  I've already signed a 'contract' with my doc about not drug-seeking, and I don't. I am scared of the damage being done to my liver but because of a botched surgery five yrs ago I need opiates to stabilize my GI tract (long story)   Problem is, I've developed musculo-skeletal pain issues that neccessitate the hydrocodone vs. just straight codeine.
There is much reference to vitamins and supplements to take to help with w/d, but no specifics.  Can anyone give a list of these?  I have the chills, diarrhea, sore muscles, extreme lethargy, restless legs, nightmares, for the first 36 hours.  I'm out of meds in about 2 days.
Any one have suggestions from their own experience? I would appreciate it.

I read your story and I admired it.  Thanks for the help, this is my 3rd time hydrocodone, first time was back surgery, 2nd time knee replacement, it been 24 hours for me and I am a zombie, but I know it can only get better with Gods help.  Gone cold turkey once, and the mental part of it took me at least a month to get over, the physical eight days.  I have been reading on this site and as far as the Thomas remedy, I believe cold turkey is best, and I believe that these vicodins, oxy's klonipins, etc... are just the devils drug trying to mess with your mind, so I do agree with you 100 percent and thanks for the moral support.

I can truly empathize with the way you are feeling. It is not your fault that you became dependent on pain meds it was inevitable. However taking more than are prescribed is a problem. All ppl will build a tolerance over time, this is something you have to make your Dr's aware of before you start taking more, if they don't understand then you need to find another Dr. That is if you are taking them for a legitiment pain problem (which that souns like the case). Do you go to pain management?? Usually they will titrate your levels according to your pain and tolerance. However. as with all Dr's not all of them are as xompassionate as they should be about the pain you are in and will only give you what they think you need. You really have to get seveal opinions and find the Dr that best fit's your needs. If though you feel that you are taking more meds tan you need then you are in the right place. Keep posting and get help. Maybe Suboxone is an option that might fit your needs. It is a partial opiate inhibitor it is used to help detox off from opiates. However if you feel after researching your options that this is for you, use it to detox and then taper off it as quickly as your body will allow. There are a few ppl on this site that have knowledge about a lot of different options, but it's late and many of them are in bed. I suggest you comback tin the day time and re-post. I wish you all the luck in finding the answers you are seeking.

Hi Cindy

Thank you  for your  quick  reply; yes, I am starting to get anxious knowing what's going to happen (again).  Thanks, it was Thomas I think,  so I'll look back a  little further.  Sigh.  I want off  these pills but they (drs)  don't  have a better alternative  for  my GI problem.
I was forced into this by my docs and now they label me as dependent (which I am) but they act like it's my doing.  What???
thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.

bannanas, water, multivitimin/w/minerals, anti oxidents, amino acids, b complex, hot baths, immodium ad, and prefferably a dr.s help.  i made it through methadone, norco (a double strength, less tylenol form of hydros), and xanax at the same time.  you can do it.  hopefully the immodium ad will help with that gastro intestinal problem you have and you won't need the hydros any more.  i hear it is a form of opiate that doesn't cause addiction.  not sure about that though.  just don't give up, hun.  it's no fun to be a slave to a pill, and i am sure there is another way to settle your tummy problems.  maybe a change of dr's is in line.  doesn't sound like your's has a heart.  they can get that way.  luv,

Lucy

Hi there, I know you are bound to be scared to death as you know what is going to be hitting you soon.  I feel diarrhea coming on just thinking about what is going to happen to you!  No, sorry, I do not mean to just go on about what you already know, just to say that I totally feel for you friend, I really do.

Are you referring to the Tomas recipe, or something like that, maybe it is Thomas?  If you go back on the archives, this will pop up about every five days or so.  I basically never found anything to help me when I have been in withdrawal, my symptoms were so severe that nothing could touch them.  I know Clonodine is a good idea to help with the elevation in your blood pressure that will surely come.  Some people have said it can help with the restless legs part, but I don't know.  I just mainly wanted you to know that you were not being ignored and that I care.  Wish I could be more help.

Love, Cindy
