Hydrocodone withdrawal

I have a loved one who has been taking three 10 mg pills of hydrocodone per day. She is quitting and is in severe discomfort from the twitching and rls feeling all over. She is incredibly strong and is fighting hard, I'm just wondering if she is about thought the worst of it. She tapered off her dose from three pills to one pill to a half pill in three consecutive days. Last night she had a half pill and the symptoms were awful.

Should this go quickly? From what I've read, she isn't on the highest dose, as others have taken much more. But her agony would suggest otherwise.

I should mention that she has a prescription due to an autoimmune disease, she's just tired of the medication controlling her life.

Oops - I didn't see the 3x per day thing. I was taking 10mg per day. Yeah...that's gonna hurt for a few days. Those OTC items can really help, though!!!

I took Sam-e and Rhodiola. In fact, I still am. You might have her look into this. I think it's helping me. Of course, ask a doctor for a blessing on this.

Four days ago I came off the same amount of hydro, but not for 3 years...just on the heels of a 1 year pretty high Tramadol habit.

Also I'd suggest definitely taking magnesium, potassium and immodium. That triple threat can really help at night. Oh--and  melatonin or Benadryl for sleep!

hi....for me it took a couple weeks to not feel depressed...it actually will come and go.....some days better than others....but it does get better!  just tell her to hang on, she will see the light soon!  don't give up!   some people take anti-depressants during WDs but you have to be careful and not trade one addiction for another....good luck!

She's been on for about three years, by the way.

Thanks, all. She is being really strong. Right now her depression is intense, though. She was depressed before starting lortabs, and she's feeling like it will never go away. How long until the feeling of hopelessness goes away.

Thanks again for the help.

I was taking about the same amount and I am on day 15 of no hydrocodone . I never missed a day in two and a half years.... The physical symtoms go pretty quick but the mental struggle is the worse for me. It depends on how long she was on them too. I had a lot of panic with my withdrawals which was by far the worse thing for me. It has improved over time. My ears still ring a little. I haven't had as much motivation either but the physical part won't last that long. It is flu season and it is going to feel like she has the flu. Will be some headaches, body aches, no sleep, etc for a 4-5 days after quitting but everyone is different. It gets better. Good luck.

Hi and welcome. Down on the right corner of the page is the Thomas recipe. It is a list of vitamins and supplements to help with the wd symptoms. For most the symptoms peak at day 3-4 then get better slowly from there. With that being said, she is on a low dose. Hot hot baths really help with the rls and rebound pain. I carried my heating pad all over because that helped ne too. Imodium for the bathroom issues is a must, but it also helps with other wd symptoms too. She probably won't feel like eating so boost, or ensure for nutrition. Gatorade to avoid dehydration. Exercise helps a ton too. Even short walks. For me, once I knew what u felt was normal, the processes was much less scary. That and the amazing support I found here got me thru. Others will be along soon with more support and advice. Tell your friend good luck! Maybe have her read some of the posts here. It really does help.
