Hydrocodone withdrawal

Was on 100+ mg/day for years. Did hosp 3 day detox a week ago. Subutex 4/4/4/2/2/2mg. 10 days clean. Feel like hell. How long will acute wd last? Was going cold turkey from that hydro level a good idea? And taking tramadol now for unreal pain from prostatitis. Would wellbutrin help more with wd? Thanks pass

Toradol is a mega dose of ibuprofen. Believe me it works. I was given it when I was having a miscarriage in the ER. Knocked out the excruciating pain for over a day. They sent me home with Vicodin. Took that when it came back and it didn't come close to denting the insane cramps.

I had a spinal tap done and got that brain splitting headache after for a week. Couldn't even lift me head off the floor without feeling like a cinder block was on it. Shot of Toradol in the butt by my doctor and I was golden for over a day again.

Lose the tramadal, take the Toradol. I'm surprised he prescribed you that. But I am thinking it is a small amount of pills.

Toradol is NOT addicting. In the ER when they offer a drug seeker that, they don't want it. Won't make them high. They want Demerol or dilaudid Etc. funny hearing how they insist it doesn't help. Or they are allergic.

Fill the Toradol script. You will be so happy after you take the first one and it sinks in. You'll get through this. Keep us posted.

I think this is good advice.  I know what a prostate infection can do to a person; my first husband got them all the time.   The pain is insane.

Give the Cipro time to work; how long a course are you on?  Do you have a fever?   Make sure you let your urologist know how your symptoms are progressing; there are stronger antibiotics out there, but Cipro is a very good drug.

Get the infection under control, THEN you can worry about weaning off opiates again.  Tramadol is opiate + antidepressant.

Keep us posted...we care...

Hugs,
-Robin

Take your medicine. You're in pain. How can you function with so much contrary advice?  Take one problem at a time. Right now you have an infection. Get that taken care of then tackle the next mountain. You're being confused and not taking care of what's most important. If you have an addiction problem, it's not going anywhere. It will wait for you to get better first.

Decided against vivitrol. Not enthused about subutex and suboxone either. No hydro for two weeks now. Maybe I'd consider subs if i ever relapse. What's killing me is the prostate pain that hasn't responded to a week of cipro. Agree counseling center was nuts. And my urologist who gave me tramadol last week knowing my story. Gotta get this uti thing figured out.

I am not a chem dependency counselor but I know the Naltrexone DOES NOT help with WDs.  It designed to help with relapse.  Its primary mode of operation is that it prevents the fun drugs from working so the addict is not rewarded and therefore doesn't continue use.

I am stunned by the counseling center's recommendation of Vivitrol.  Vivitrol is Naltrexone.  Naltrexone is designed to block any activity of any agonist of the opiate receptors, like tramadol.  Your pain mgmt people NEED to know you are taking Vivitrol.

The term opiate antagonist or opioid antagonist is used to describe a receptor antagonist that acts upon the opioid receptors that are naturally found in the human body.  Opiate antagonists drugs are used to bind to the opioid receptors in the body more strongly or with a higher affinity that agonists which results in the blocking of the opiate receptors and prevents the body from have a response to drugs such as heroin or other opiates.
There are a number of different opiate antagonist drugs but two of the most commonly used opiate antagonists that are used in opiate addiction treatment include:
Naloxone
Naltrexone

Vivitrol was suggested by the counselling center as an alternative to suboxone. They said it would help with wd. Suboxone docs all scheduling a month out and the vivitrol next Wednesday. Hope next week is better. I never imagined what I was getting myself into. My focus now is trying to eat and drink lots of water.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this pain. I agree to get the Toradol filled and try that. There should be no withdrawal at all with that and it does work. At least it did for me. If not, try and keep the Tramadol as low as you can to avoid any lengthy withdrawal from it.

BTW, why are you going on Vivitrol?

IMO, maybe you should get the toridol script filled,  and flush the trams. The toridol should be just as effective in managing the pain. Trams are nothing but bad news, they are very addicting.  Please be very careful with them, they'll pull you in before you know it.  Then you'll have another drug to detox from. I'd give the toridol a shot. Good luck and take care!!

In case I didn't specifically ask, is the first week hell, and next week any better? How long might this acute wd last? I'm scheduled for vivitrol next Wednesday - will the tramadol be a problem? I'm clean otherwise. Does the tramadol make physical wd worse or longer? Thanks again all. Just knowing someone out cares helps a lot. Mom died last November and no other family but my deaf white cat.

Ok, so you got the bad luck of getting a horrid infection post wd. Yup, that does blow. You can only ride it out, and take as little trams as you can possibly tolerate.

And I was supposed to be starting new job next week another reason I finally did detox. Have to tell them about just the prostate infection I guess. Don't think the hydro caused it but the wd definitely magnifies the pain. A real double whammy :)

And took tramadol 10 hrs ago 100 mg. Yes urologist knew about hydro wd. Pain so bad sent to ER last night and ran cat scan on gut nothing showed up. They gave me script for toroidal haven't filled it. Withdrawal was going to be tough enough without the prostate infection which I have in the past- it's pain like you can't imagine unless you've been there. Staying within the 400 mg/day limit on tramadol. I know now it's its own monster from what you say but I could not deal with the pain on top of wd. Thanks I'm barely coping just getting through to tomorrow. Lots of water and bananas.

Okay, so the urologist doesn't know you know you're an addict I'm guessing. Tramadol is a worse wd than hydro, so like IBKleen said, you just jumped from the pan into the fire. You are going in circles.

You haven't been truly clean long enough to know what your actual pain levels are. When you are in wds, your hair hurts. No, wellbutrin won't help w/ wds. You can look up the Thomas recipe on this site, and they give some aids for wds. Being addicts, we just have to kind of accept the wds as the necessary evil to get us to a new life.

No hydro for 10 days. Quit before detox. Hosp detox 3 days of subutex. Left hosp 7 days ago no subutex since. Prostate started hurting 2 weeks ago. Don't think hydro caused that was still using when it started. Saw urologist 3 days ago and he gave me tramadol for pain and cipro for infection
Never used tramadol before. Pain level was off the scale no doubt made worse by wd. Pain was what finally pushed me to quit using.

I am just as confused. Do you know you will withdraw from the Tramadol? You just jumped from the frying pan into the fire. What are you taking it for?

Hi there. I'm a little confused: are you OFF subs now? You say you are 10 days clean but you are on tramadol? Can you explain, sorry if I'm not understanding.

I was on between 100 to 120 mg of hydro (10 to 12 norcos per day) and I did cold turkey. People jump from much much more. Yes, it sux but wd's are hell, nothing we can do about that.

I just re-read, why did you go to a 3 day detox? And then get put on tramadol? Don't the dr's know you are an addict? I'm really confused.
