Hey Tooter...It's been awhile since I've heard from you. But you are so right, the hydros and all the other opiates in their category, do not help the pain. They just get you higher and higher and you end up a junkie again. I will be needing back surgery soon myself. And of course after surgery you're gonna need something. But you have to out way the good with the bad. If surgery helps me walk w/o pain and be active again, I'll take the pills again. If I have to go thru w/d's, then so be it. I want to play and do lots of things with my grandchildren. I still have a lot of living to do..OFF the couch. Good luck Tooter...
I'm not real sure they will do surgery. The Pain Management Dr. said they may be able to help me. I've had the decompression done about 15 yrs ago.. so not telling what they will find, Just hope they can help. I agree with you about the pills, I will tell them up front.
I'm not sure but I will say unless you have a high tolerance for pain you will need something for it. At least while in the hospital after which will be @3-5 days. And they will expect you up and standing/walking immediately. Yes at least a couple of steps. Chronic pain pill takers are not always addicts or abusers. But eventually they will become dependent even when taking as prescribed. So talk to the Doctors and see if you can get something mild in the hospital and then a small script for a a couple weeks after. Then at your first follow up can discuss further and see what is needed.
But you can 't go on as you are forever. Surgery is not the magic cure. You won't be100% again. But you will be better than before. 3-6 mos after. Good luck. Tell us what happens.
