I dumped everything

Tonight I went through my medicine cabinet... And threw out anything that was mine. The old prescriptions for random ailments, the neurontin that's dr gave me for my fibromyalgia, any potentially addictive OTC medicines. All that is left is medicine for my kids and my husband, and my vitamins. It was liberating and scary at the same time. Mainly because the neurontin has been helping me sleep. I want to sleep without it even though it's not an addictive drug. When I did it I went through my kids meds too. Threw out the old ibuprofen and Tylenol and children's cold medicine that was out of date. Here's the kicker. My four year old had a nasty cold last year and our family dr prescribed him some cough syrup. I looked at it when I was cleaning out to check the date. It was hydrocodone cough syrup!!!!! Almost full, down the drain. Who gives a four year old a medicine like that when there are so many other non narcotic remedies that would be effective. He's four!!! Thank god I didn't pump him full of it, and thank god even more for the strength to dump that bottle instead of drink it. I didn't even know. I am eight days today. I am praying the RLS stays away since I won't have the neurontin to calm it. I don't need the neurontin. It's just another crutch in the way of a normal life. I don't even hurt during the day anymore like I used to. On pills or detox. Tylenol does the trick.

I also get to go to another na meeting tomorrow. I'm super stoked about that, and am ready to get a sponsor and start working my steps.

Great job!  That us crazy to give a 4 year old that!  Proud of you for dumping it!  The neurotin (gabapentin is the generic) did wonders for me for the first 2 weeks. The rehab here in Texas prescribe the gabapentin for those going thru withdrawals as it helps with anxiety, sleep and even blood pressure. I just did a fast taper the second week and had no problems coming off it. I don't know if I would've made it without it. On the other hand, I understand wanting to be completely free of all pills!  You are doing great!  Keep on fighting the good fight!

Totally awesome !!! Great job. And I do think neurontin is addicting. My one dr gave it to me. I took it 3 days. For my RLS and it made me do **** I refused anymore. My husband took it and it gave him horrible runs etc too. You don't need that. If you have RLS without detox try getting Requip. Works for the creepy moving feelings etc. not pain but everything else. Keep going. 8 days. Can't wait till I am there.

Not sure if I could have done what you did. And believe me, I would have KNOWN that the stuff was there. Be very proud of yourself.
