Ibogaine

Ive been addicted to opiates for 8 years. All kinds. It all happened after an accident I had when I was 19. Started with Percocet went to oxy went to oxymorphone let me get to the point ive tried over a dozen rimes to stop I get so sick and it last so long that I can not get over it, It feels like every nerve in my body is on fire and this is aside from the back problems I have. I even was on iv morphine and when I went through that I tried heroin which is a scapegoat when I run out of my meds early. I am truly tired and do not want to do this no more but I get so sick that I fear I could die. I have been to detox and I get so sick I either leave or ill finish it and when I get out ill take pills to not be sick no more. Ive been looking into this hallucinogenic drug called ibogaine its effects seem promising. It supposedly repairs the opiate receptors to a state they supposedly were in before the addiction with no withdrawal can somebody give me their opinion on this treatment.

Hi there & welcome,.

Ibogaine is used in just about every western country for opiate, benzo & alcohol treatment except the US where it was labeled a schedule 1 during the Nixon administration because of fear over psychedelics. It removes w/d's (they suspect it's action works through the suppression over overproduction of norepinephrine.) It is extremely important to go to a reputable facility where they run a panel on you & check your heart, liver & kidneys. Supposedly, it works better for opiates than the other drugs. There's no guarantee that you'll stay clean later but most of the studies & anecdotal evidence supports it's efficacy. I have read of cases, however, where the person is left confused & depressed afterwards. Here's a link:

This is a report on the cessation of Ibogaine treatment deaths.

From there there are plenty of testimonials you can access on Youtube.
Note: It is extremely important that the dose be proper. 'Underground' treatment (especially in the US) is dangerous.

Hope this helps a bit. If I had my detox to do over again. I would have tried this. (But that's just me!)

Hey Rob, the research I did on Ibogaine states that it is a plant diriviative from Africa and in large quantities a Hallucinogenic which Comcerns me big time. Remember Opiates are a plant derivative from the poppy plant. I personally would stay far away from Ibogaine and look into Rapid Detox with intense therapy after there is no magic cure all cures take prayers, time, and effort. That being said friend some MH regulars in the substance abuse forum and will be glad to help you. Most of us have been through it.

Saw a show about this drug, and watched the guy who was advocating it take twos guys from NC up to Canada for a session with it to try and break free from methodone. Advocate said he had been on H for a long time and this stopped it.

The advocate swore by it and seemed very sincere. One of the two guys going through the treatment had a seizure while on ibogain, and they later found out he was still on method one when he took the therapy.

Seems promising, but I don't know too much. It would be nice if they could crack that nut. I don't think they can do anything for the cravings though. Stubbornness is IMO the best antidote for that. Keep pursuing your desire to break free
