Is anyone on SUBUTEX????

My husband got prescribed to take Subutex right after he finished with suboxone.  He tried to get off suboxone but he started having mental cravings and body aches.  He went to see a doctor and the doctor prescribed him subutex and that it should be easier for him to get off this way.  Both drugs are quite different but I dont understand why he wasn't given the subutex in the beginning.  The problem he had was he used to take hydrocodene pills like 15 a day for a year.  Then he finally got help and got suboxone from the doctor and was on it for 9 mons and he tapered down from 8mg to 2mg.  Do you know if subutex helps or not? atleast any information you can provide for me pleasee! its just odd to go from one drug to another.  The doctor said that suboxone is given to people that want to get off herion not opiods is this true?
thank you
God Bless

I went from methadone (6 months) to suboxone (3 months) to subutex (3 months) I tapered off each one except subutex. I took my last 14mg dose July 31 and have not had a single drop of withdrawals. I took roxys for 3 years up to 25 30mg a day so I know all about withdrawals. I have heard tapering off subutex is worse than just stopping because withdraws are worse the longer your on them. I do recommend counseling if he only stays on for subutex 2-3 months so he will have a better chance not to relapse. I'm no doctor but I have been through the same as your husband and this is just my recommendation. Hope it helps. Subutex is definitely the best way to go to get clean.

I'm about to make the transition from 4 or 5 norco 10/325 per day to hopefully nothing but an occasional (as needed) dose. I'm scared of the withdrawals I have heard about..
Any suggestions?

Hi,

Thank you all for the response in feedback, to waittolong: suboxone is given to heroin addicts and subutex is given to opiod dependence.....that's what the doctor told him.  First of all he switched doctors when he came off suboxone because when he started feeling cravings he called his doctor and he was on vacation so he couldn't wait too  long so he got another doctor and he said that he should take subutex for 2 months and it will be easier for him to get off.  Hopefully this is the right path.

suboxone and subutex are the same thing, except suboxone has naloxone in it to prevent abuse of it by IV drug users. suboxone and subutex are both made up of bupenorphine. they can both be used for pain as it is the bupenorphine that has the pain killing abilities , but suboxone is the more readily prescribed one, again so it cant be misuses or abused, it is the bupenorphine that has the ability to curb pain, curb drug addicts cravings and stop withdrawals. for the pain factor it comes in pill form and shot form . i know the only ones available to treat addiction with take home privelages is the subutex or suboxone. USUALLY suboxone is given regardless for addicts...unless there is a sensitivity to the naloxone, which include the following: asthenia, chills, headache, infection, pain, pain in the abdomen, back pain, withdrawal syndrome, vasodilation, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and sweating. but i have experienced a few of these side effects myself at the beginning, and they went away after my body adjusted to the medicine.
i have NO IDEA why your husbands doctor started him on suboxone then switched him to subutex, (usually it is the other way around) unless HE possibly requested it himself without you knowing, because subutex CAN be abused. although i have heard a few people say subutex was easier to get off then suboxone, but i have also heard the reverse is true.
at low doses, i dont think either one has the ability to stop a high dose of a different opiod to try to get high, not sure, never tried it. i make sure i am on an adequate dose so i dont get cravings and that wont happen to me, afterall, that is the purpose. it does seem to help with my everyday pain, but does not help with any flare ups i may have.
suboxone IS given to heroin addicts instead of subutex, because a heroin addict could abuse the subutex, not the suboxone...but BOTH are used to treat any kind of opiate addiction UNLESS you are an IV drug user, most doctors stick to suboxone so there is no chance of misuse or abuse.
he will have withdrawals from subutex or suboxone, as it is his dependence on the bupenorphine that will cause him to have withdrawals when he stops.  but if he is in no rush and takes it as slow and as to a low of a dose as possible, then taking it every other day, every 3rd day and so on, he should have quite mild withdrawals from it when he does stop, but it has to be very slow taper schedule.

Been on Hydro for 4 years mixed with spurts of Suboxone, Always went back to norco's 10/325  my choice 15-20 a day. last August tried to get out ,went off Suboxone aug. 4th
suffered untold WD's for 10 days ( the Worse ) stayed clean for 23 days then having no energy, saw a buddy and took couple 7.5/500 and coached my best soccer practice ever, yup back on the juice. Finally went back on Suboxone in August this year it is a Miracle drug at times, was able to function at high level, but not me' I want my Life back. Tried quitting Sub. went from 16 to 8 to 4 to 2 ( 1/4 of a tablet ) per day. Every time I tried to quit 1st 2 nights were OK than The Devil would come third night. Couldn't do it. I tried, Couldn't do it. Fought it, couldn't do it. Then saw same buddy he said try going back on low dosage of Hydro till Sub clears, ( its that dam half life with the SUB). Went back to Hydro but only 10/500 and only 8 a day, ( 1 week ), then 6 a day ( 1 week ), then 4 a day, for 1 day Friday, Last Hydro  6:00pm  Friday, Yesterday sucked, but I'm here, Today feel OK almost like Its left my system, but because of my Sub experience I think night three will be the teller. Want my life back and regardless of the WD'S I will survive.  Was presented the Ultimate test Last night went for some Ibuprophen for the aches and pains, and found 8 10/500's can't believe I didn't take any, But I Want My Life Back.  Figure the 1 hydro I took at 6pm friday night wore off at 10pm. That puts me at 37.5 hours in WD ( daylight savings included ) Of Course the Mary Jane helps. I want my life back, thanks for listening. Off to the Hot Tub really helps the chills.

Subutex
The active ingredient in Subutex is Buprenorphine but unlike Suboxone it does not contain naloxone. Subutex is mainly used for treatment given under direct observation. Please refer to the manufacturer website for more details.

When do we give Subutex?
We usually reserve the use of Subutex for situations where patients will be under observation while they take the medication. Please refer to the manufacturer website for more details.

Does the efficacy of Subutex differ from that of Suboxone ?
Not at all, if given at equivalent dosage. The only difference between Subutex and Suboxone is the Naloxone which becomes active only if the pill is injected. Please refer to the manufacturer website for more details.

Is Subutex habit forming?
Subutex contains an opiate and therefore it is habit forming however much less than full opiate agonists. Weaning patient off Suboxone can be achieved in a relatively shorter duration than in the case of other stronger opiates. Please refer to the manufacturer website for more details.

naloxone trade name is Narcan what this does is bind with the dopamine resptors in the brain so that any opiates can not the bind is stronger than the opiate so if he goes on to subtex he could get the hydro's and get the high while on subtex..

no matter what he will have W/D

sorry to give the news you don't want to hear
