Just need support coming off Vicodin

I am finally coming to the realization that painkillers are destroying my life. I am 23 and hooked on this stuff, i got them legally for a lumbar injury but its been nearly 2 years on them and i am starting to see the damage they are doing. Currently i take three 7.5's a day and they do nothing for the pain and now my body is use to the stuff. However for the last 4 months on and off i would switch to 10mgs. I admit i need help this ****'s cost me relationships and the trust my father once had in me. I have a family history of substance abuse (my mom abuses norco and oxy's also uncle is a recovering alcoholic) and most sad of all i am hoping to go in to substance abuse counseling after college, sadly even with knowing all of this i never wanted to see the dangers. My question is whats everyone take on cold turkey vs weaning off. Also during withdrawal anyone have problems driving because of vision problems ( feels like i am spacing out alot and vision is getting blurry). Thanks for any help or advice anyone can give.

You should already feel good about your decision to better yourself! Is it possible for you to talk to your doctor about your choice to get off of them?

I would suggest just stopping cold turkey. Either way you are gonna with drawal from it. Yes it will suck and you are going to be miserable for a few days.  just think  of it as having the flu. Im on my 3rd day coming off the vicodin. I was taking tham for the last 9 months. 1st i was talking 750s for fun. It made me feel good. Then i wrecked my dirtbike and broke my hip. So i was on some real good stuff in hospital. Then they sent me away with lots of percs. 10mg. I ate every pill i could get and then i would by off the street. It went from 2 pills a day(before accident for 5 months) then to 10+ pill a day. I was buying nocos and vicodins. I woke up finally and was wtf am i doing. I could not function without them I know i have not been taking them long like must people that quit, but i had enough. Its really not too bad coming off them. You just cant sit and dwell on it. Keep busy. Im thinking myself i wasnt taking the pills long enough to get the bad symtoms of the with drawals. I only felt body aches and hot and cold flashes. Maybe i got lucky. I have been reading some bad stories out here about other people. I was reading them before i quit and was scared too. Oh i did buy that with draw ease. I seen that it works and that it doesnt. For me, i will say it does work.I have not thrown up, no diarreha, no blurred vision,no depression, and im not dripping sweat. all and all hasnt been to bad. Good luck to you and everyone else out there!!!!

Hang in ther, shouldn't be too bad at that dose, not to minimize.I am using methocarbomol right now and it is helping greatly, day 5,yesterday was the worst for pain today is much better.I had back surgery 4 years aggo, even without prescriptions i continued use, sometimes up to,150mg of vic or perc a day.my last dose was 50mg on friday, it gets better believe me.This is a tricky drug.My last withdraw 5 months after surgery lasted 7 days, curled up in a ball unable to function.this is nothing compaared to that but still a ***** as my family has the same issues.I currently have a refill, but i am refusing to go get it.Sick n tired of bein sick and tired.
And when someone is abused or neglected as a child it also creates in some an addictive personality.guilty as charged.
Goto your doctor,Methocarbomal is non addictive and helps greatly with relieving some pain and the creepy crawlies, and sleep. My problem is my motabolism is so high that whatever i take it seems i need 2-4 times what others usualy do.Music therapy helps me also.
Best of luck my friend.Drug companies love us here in America.

For no more than you are taking, you shouldn't have any problems quitting CT.   If you want to do it.   It takes a few days, but it isn't anything you can't do, if that is what you want.   Better to quit now before your habit is any worse.

I would maybe first talk with your doctor about coming up with a plan for YOUR experience with detoxing. I find that even though withdrawal can have lingering symptoms for weeks the worst parts are the first 3-4 days. Day 5 is usually monumental, giving us signs of hope with feelings of normalcy even if it comes in waves. There are many counter meds/herbs that can help with withdrawal, but you will find this in trial and error. You're strong kiddo....if you were able to do the couple days without your meds then think about it, you've already been able to get through the most unsavory parts of the experience. Hold your head high. having a plan is a great start.

I am planning on meeting with my doctor next week and i know that 3 vicodin a day is not a bad as what some people take. Also its not my first time withdrawing, because of a mix up at the pharmacy and family member taking some on me once i have had a few cases of withdrawal. made it a few days but then was just able to get my med's refilled so i was back to taking them. I just know that this different need to quit for my own good.
